bu really, trucks cant stop as fast as cars. so, it makes sense to me that speed limits should differ from automobiles and trucks.

A: Its all about stopping distances.
B: It's only about revenue if you speed... Very simple concept. P.S. If the drivers were worried about the fuel prices, they would all be driving 55... but they wont. They love being part of the problem.

As a little side note, the "official" position of the IL state police is that the split limit is safer than having trucks go the same as cars. Unofficially I have yet to talk to a state cop that believes this.
UTurn, thanks for the input, but I wanted to clarify something. Are you saying that you can go 60-65 through Illinois and most state police won't bother you?
If you are in a state with a split speed limit, with the exemption of The Republic of California, most State Troopers wont look twice at you if you are going faster than the trucks split speed limit, just so long as you are below the car speed limit, and your not constantly "lane weaving". (However, dont quote me on this, Ill deny I ever said it)

See thats good to know the state police don't agree with that law.
But I have one question for you guys saying this. Why have I heard from so so many drivers about them getting speeding tickets in Illinois and Ohio for going 58 or 60 then?

Because the speed limit is the law ,and even though it's not always enforced when it comes to segragated truck speeds it is still enforced , and you just might be the one that is unlucky ebnough to meet the quota while driving 62-65 in a truck 55 mph . I have seen a few drivers sitting in safety giving their explanation of their speeding ticket for 60-65 in a truck 55 ...I rember a driver and his wife sitting in Omaha waiting to see safety for doing 62 in a truck 55 in OHIO ...Now I hate these speed restrictions ,and think they are just for revenue , But igf I speed and get a ticket my personal feelings will not change the outcome in court , and I will have just added a mark to my DMV record that could limit my driving options for a few years ...The only way to not get cited for speeding is to not speed ...It sux I know , But if your just starting your driving career do you really want to have to stay at Werner,JB, Or Swift any longer than you have to just for a speeding ticket ?

I don't recall mentioning GW in to many of my posts ...Maybe you could keep replies made to me on track with observations that are relevant to my posts . However Trucks exceeding 55mph are not the reason for the "PRICE" of fuel , However GW is more relevant to this problem than Truck drivers , So I figured I'd toss that one at you , as your point of truckers being part of the fuel problem is rather lame . |
