Very simple concept.

P.S. If the drivers were worried about the fuel prices, they would all be driving 55... but they wont. They love being part of the problem.[/quote

AND GEORGE BUSH IS WORTH EVERY PENNY OF THE AMERICAN TAX PAYER FOR THE SUPERB JOB HE'S DOING .
What topic can you discuss without it being about George Bush? I really beginning to think that you can't. George Bush doesn't drive a truck, nor does he make the speed limits in the states.

I don't recall mentioning GW in to many of my posts ...Maybe you could keep replies made to me on track with observations that are relevant to my posts . However Trucks exceeding 55mph are not the reason for the "PRICE" of fuel , However GW is more relevant to this problem than Truck drivers , So I figured I'd toss that one at you , as your point of truckers being part of the fuel problem is rather lame .
So millions of large trucks driving 65-70+ (compared to 55mph) is not part of the over consumption/demand = higher price fuel problem?

Im with Fozzy on this one, (whether you mention GW in most your posts or not), you had to toss a "zigger" in there, that has nothing to do with the post.

Well..figure this!!! I have to agree with Fozzmiester as to Bush not being responsible for fuel prices...or even the price of TEA from China for that matter.
LOL....Clinton is the reason we pay such high fuel prices, didn't you know?? The Clinton administration could have stood up and stopped the merger-mania that occured among the Majors from 1998 through 2001. But..Clinton was to busy fending off accusation after accusation, to be able to do his job, and protect the american consumer from vultures. In an attempt to appease the Rebublican majority in Congress, Clinton never appointed more than 1 "democratic party" leaning member, of the Federal Trade Commision. Through out Clinton's presidency, the FTC was controlled by the Republican party (a majority of the members were and are, card carrying republicans), as it is today, and as it has been since Ford. During Clinton's presidency it was 3 republicans and 2 democrats. Any idea what it (the FTC) is today?

However.....millions of trucks driving 65-75+ mph??? Come on now, be real.

I live in Ohio and my best advice is to run with the traffic (trucks not cars). If a bunch of trucks are running 60-62 and everyone is staying in line, 9 times out of 10 they will leave you alone. When you start passing everyone and making lane changes is when they they are most likely to get you. Your also better off to keep it slow around high traffic areas (big city's and interchanges).

I was just thinking, those of you that are local drivers in these 55 mph states, doesn't it piss you off that you can never legally drive 65 mph ever in a truck in your state? I mean, come on now........... 55 is just WAY TOO DAMN SLOW! At that speed, you are holding the truck back more often than you are driving the truck.

Does anyone here know what would be the difference in mpg going 55 versus 70 ? Is there any sort of factor to use? Thanks Darin

But I have one question for you guys saying this. Why have I heard from so so many drivers about them getting speeding tickets in Illinois and Ohio for going 58 or 60 then?
...shiny new badge "newbies".

Most of these tickets are either bogus trucker fairy tales (there are some drivers who still feel that bragging about speeding tickets is "cool") or the officer cut them a break and wrote the ticket at a lesser speed to lower the fines. This is usually where the trucker calls the cop all sorts of names (only in the company break room of course) and rants about how "the man" is keeping him down. We had a driver get two tickets in one week, the first in his car for no seat belt and in the truck for having a friggen radar detector. Of course its all the cops fault... how long have detectors been illegal in CMVs anyway? Like over a decade??

About the fuel mileage question, you save around 1mpg driving 55 as you do 55, and at 70 the difference is greater because of how much HP it takes to maintain the speed and to overcome the greater resistances as the speeds go up. For one truck, it saves quite a bit, for these fleets with hundreds or even thousands of trucks? It adds up to millions per year. and at these fuel prices, it could and WILL mean the survival of companies, there will be a lot of companies going out of business this coming year.
