What is Air Brakes? understanding for your CDL Exam

In Air Brakes we are going to discuss about the following:

Air Brake System Parts
Dual Air Brake Systems
Inspecting Air Brakes
Using Air Brakes

Air Brake System Parts:

The parts of the air brakes start with the following:

Air Compressor:

The Air compressor is found alongside the engine and it uses a gear driven it could be belt driven you want to make sure this properly mounted and secured.

Air compressor Governor:

Air compressor Governor that controls the details of when the kick in at 100 PSI when the stop compressing at 125 PSI or pounds per square inch. After that it puts in the air compressors pumping air to the Air Storage Tanks. The tractor has two tanks, one is called Wet tank/primary tank and 2nd is dry tank/secondary tank. All have the Valve on tank that we complete to let the Air Vapor and Oil Vapor out of the tanks. The Valve on the front they got a while lanyard you can pull it in a released outlet a vapor you want to keep the vapor rowdier air system because it can freeze up airlines and prevent your brakes working properly.

Some tanks have Tank Drains underneath them here, there little thick cock that you can turn a little drain tanks up to. Some trucks have Alcoholic Evaporators that keep alcohol in the system so the ice won't build up, make sure you check that it has in the right amount of alcohol in it. These tanks also have a Safety Valve on them if the air pressure gets up to 150 pounds per square inch it will pop and release the air pressure. Also indicated that can't go off have a problem with your air compressor or governor.

Brake Pedal:

The brake pedal sometimes called the foot valve or trailer valve is what activate your brakes on your tractor and trailer on hardly pushed on the more pressure we pushed on the brakes.

Foundation Brakes:

The foundation brakes at the end of each axle on your tractor and trailer, look at a mockup of the foundation brake.
The airline will come into your air chamber unit. When you press on the brakes, air is forced into chamber which pushes this pushrod out in this Move the slack adjuster which is connected to this camshaft at the other end of the camshaft is S cam and as it turns in the pushes on these rollers, which pushes brake shoe again that has a past malts these orange colors against the brake drum and that's the parts of your brake this is something you need to know on your PreTrip.
