You take a written test (multiple choice) at you DMV tesing area. It is about 20 questions you have to get about 16 right to pass. You then will recieve a doubles/triples endorsement.

No driving test is required.

Endorsements

To be licensed for certain types of commercial vehicles, extra testing is required. If you pass, you will receive an endorsement on your CDL. These are the five endorsements that you can apply for. Each requires between one and five knowledge (written) tests, and two require driving (skills) tests.

T?Double/Triple Trailers (knowledge test only)
P?Passenger (knowledge and skills tests)
N?Tank Vehicle (knowledge test only)
H?Hazardous Materials (knowledge test only)
S?School Buses (knowledge and skills tests)

In texas. Study the cdl manual from the state. Go down to the DPS, take the test, pass it. No driving test. The same way it is for the pre-trip. Study, Take the written test. And your done.
