Yes, the Rand McNally laminated is definitely the best. You can write on it and then wipe it off later. I've used them for 8 years now. They really hold up to wear and they don't tear like others do. Well worth it. Drive safe everyone.

You can also use the laminated one as a plate when you eat. Use pepperoni to mark milestones for the day and peas for rest stops. Depends on what your eating but you can use your imagination. At each milestone, eat a piece of pepperoni. When you get to your destination, wipe it off clean!

The easiest way to get it cheaper is to buy last year's edition.
I can't remember what TS it was, but I just saw a whole rack full of last year's atlas for sale and they were a lot cheaper than 60-80 bucks. Not sure, but I believe the price was in the teens...

I bought a couple of Rand McNally's with standard print for $10 each at a Pilot. It was shortly after the new ones came out. I have looked at the other maps and prefer Rand McNally. I normally keep them for 2-3 years and then upgrade. The laminated will last for a long time. Even if you buy the new version, it is still worth paying the difference for the lamination. The standard binding will not last on the cheap maps. They will come apart after a very short time. I believe they sell for either $29.95 or $39.95 when they first come out.
