Default what school dont tell you "Home Time"

don't think that when a company tells you that for every 7 day's out you get one day off ... and think your going to be home every two weeks for two day's .... it don't work that way ... most of the drivers we talk to out on the road say they stay out 3 to 5 weeks or more ... we've been out for 9 weeks and going home tomorrow for 5 day's .... I think truckers should be able to get home more often ... trucking is a great life ... but it's also a real hard life if you like being home

Who are you driving for and have you requested hometime and been turned down before now?

I my years of driving I was only out more than 14 days 1 time. Most of the time I was home about every 10 days. Normally home on Friday night and leave late Sunday evening or Monday morning.

I do agree trucking is a hard life for married person. But then again so is any traveling job. Some worst than others.

The only time I ever stayed out more than 2 weeks was by my choice. Hometime is a big issue with many drivers and a lot of companies have made efforts to getting drivers home more often, at least when requested.

When I ran OTR for TMC I was home EVERY SINGLE WEEKEND but one, and that was by MY request. There are companies out there who work VERY hard getting their drivers home EVERY weekend and sometimes more often, the key is DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE YOU BEGIN DRIVING and GET IT IN WRITING.
Now I'm home DAILY, weekends AND holidays.

Staying out on the road is just fine....

...if thats what you like.

I've gotten homesick after 3 days on the road in the same regions, and likewise, cussed out dispatch for bringing me home from the west after 3 weeks

When you want to be home, you want to be home and nothing can change your mind, so i totally understand why hometime is important.

Its also common knowledge that unscrupulous dispatchers intentionally run you away from your home state and keep you there to keep you from being too fond of home.

Trucking destroys marriages, no doubt! However, alcohol does too. But, just as there are happy alcoholic couples, there are happy trucker/spouse couples lol
