Man....seeing snow on the volcanos of the big island was such a trip the first time...but once you came to the realization that snow can happen anywhere in the world above 10,000 feet...no big deal. But Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea are great hiking areas....and skiing if that is your bag! I was more into hiking and snorkeling. I remember spending 6 weeks working at the power plant outside of Hilo. Not once in that 6 weeks did Kilauea Volcano erupt. After the job was done and we headed home, as the plane was making the turn off the west coast of the island, the pilot came on the intercom and said "For the folks on the leftside of the aircraft, you can look down and see the first eruption of Kilauea in over 3 years. For you folks on the right side of the aircraft, we will see if we can swing around so you can have a view". Of course..all of us on the right side of the plane tried to get across to look...just in case! :tears::tears::tears:

Stan.....just by chance... Was the "relief cooler" mysteriously 'guarded' 24/7 by a fella with a bad golf swing that talked too much?

Hmmmm....i pulled an MT from south of Chicago up to Green Bay today. When most drivers were parked in truck stops. Even saw a JB Hunt trailer 50ft down in a ditch, rolled onto its right side. Truck was long since gone. Weather wasnt pretty, but i took the load for two reasons. 1) good experience (oh and i had to bobtail from Morris, Illinois to Dwight, Il. to get the MT.) and 2) the load delivers in Nebraksa. if i didnt take this, getting home for christmas probably wasnt going to happen.
But according to Snowman, i'm willing to guess that 'not being home once in a month is part of the job'. How many of you stay out for a month, and not b!tch about not ever getting home. http://www.classadrivers.com/forum/a...1&d=1229921639

oh, i should also say that i got the preplan for this load on the 20th. i knew it picked up at 9p on the 21st and didnt deliver till the 23rd (ill probably get it there on the 22nd anyways). but had it been a hot load, where it had to get delivered on the 22nd in the morning, i wouldnt have accepted this load. regardless where it was going.
not going to drive in conditions where there is a winter weather warning after a huge system goes thru an area like this one did. single digit temps, below zero temps and 20-30mph guests.....forget it. ill camp out in my truck for a day.

That road looks in pretty good shape to what goes on around Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana and Ohio this winter. Today in Michigan we are having 40 mile an hour winds with the foot of snow we have and making it hard to get a visual in spots. I am very happy to be stuck in the kitchen making Christmas goodies this week.
Glad you are getting some snow time under your belt. Just play it cool and you'll get through it.

But at least you're driving it. Just like the 50 other trucks I saw from the Appleton area to Green Bay today.

Try Sherman or Elk when a gust will change lanes for you LOL Or be on the top of a clover leaf in LA empty with the Santa Ana winds blowing and your jaw hurts from gritting your teeth before you get off it. I thought I was going over the other day on top of a clover leaf empty. The pucker factor was 9.999999 |
