Regardless of what happens to the dollar, we will all be working for it. Trucking is the kind of work that military people can take to.

What's funny is you have all types of people sitting here arguing about statistics, deaths, wages, ect...

If you are a driven person, don't mind doing work, don't need a boss sitting there telling you what you "need to do".. Then trucking might be for you.. If not, well then leaver parked..

LTL guys are just blowing you a bunch of crap about how much they make.. Yeah they make a decent hourly wage, but most work on the docks before or after their shift for the extra money.. Normally putting in 12 to 14 hour days themselves..

Get specialized, make yourself "sellable",keep your record clean, and work toward your gaols.

Half of what you hear from MOST truckers mouths is BS, and the other half take with a grain of salt.. Unless they can prove it with things like "Dollar per IFTA mile", Net profit, and what their actual net worth vs debt ratio is, DONT LISTEN TO THEM...

And remember, sitting in a truck stop don't pay the bills, holding the steering wheel does..

Give it a year. Get some miles and experience OTR, and at the end of that year if you have kept your nose and driving record clean you should be able to get a local gig. If you still enjoy OTR then stay out there.

MEDIAN HOUSEHOLD CURRENT DOLLARS
1982 $19,074
2007 $48,201
Notice it says median HOUSEHOLD income? I wonder what % of households had two incomes in 1982 vs 2007?

Funny how frosty hates everything involving trucks and he can't seem to stop 'discussing' with truckers...

Anyhow, I have a short answer to the question. If you've done your research, you want to do it, just go and do it and see for yourself!
You only live once so go for it. If you find out you don't like it, you've gained another experience and at least saw some of the country.

Well, then it's even more sad that the median household with inflation has gone up only $8000. Point is, wages are not keeping up with the cost of inflation.
