I thought Headborg's employer censored him from further internet postings?

I thought this was a board for driver's not companies.
It is a board for those with an interest or who work in the trucking industry. There are many members who have never even sat in a truck along with recruiters, owner operators and fleet owners. It is a mixed bag of people who frequent this forum. Nevertheless, your idea is probably not applicable to our industry on a driver by driver basis. I say this because if it was Werner, Schneider, Swift, etc. would have implemented it a long time ago. Owner operators who lease their equipment to a carrier have had to put up a cash bond for years. It is usually taken out of the owners weekly settlements. Bonds can range from $500-2,000 or more. It is given back to the owner operator as long as he returns any signage, cab cards, base plates, or other company property once his contract is terminated. If he owes the carrier any money then that will be deducted and the balance returned to the owner.

Well, lugging is lugging, your gear selection is relative to your road speed right?

Hwy 49 intersects 89 about 40 miles south of Quincy, right near Sierraville. If you could read a map, you could see this for yourself. It then proceeds south and west through Sierra City, Downieville, Grass Valley & Nevada City until it crosses 80 at Auburn. From there it proceeds south through Jackson, Angels Camp and all the other gold rush era small towns. As I recall 49 ends at Mariposa, the gateway to Yosemite. Apparently our fearless driver's plan was to take 49 to 80 to 5.

I'm thinking it's hard to lug an engine that makes peak torque at a really low rpm. I'm not sure where the torque peak is on a 3406E or C15, but it's got to be way down there. I'm thinking you might want to keep the rpm higher to minimize the chances of breaking traction.

You would have to downshift, increasing your torque via the transmission, right ?

Yes, but then could you reduce the increase by using less throttle?

I used to be a nice ride 10 years ago, before it got clogged with RV's & Harleys, all going 30 mph.
