The is no one size fits all company for everyone.

What is important to you? In OTR there are trade-offs between earnings, equipment and home time.

Then there are the pros and cons of different segments: Reefer, Dry Van, Flatbed, LTL and perhaps Tanker are whats open to you as a new company driver.

Later on later on some of the more $pecialized stuff will open up.

You should get on with U.S. Xpress. They take student graduates and most of their trucks are automatic anymore. They have OTR, Regional, Dedicated, and local opportunities. You will still need to learn a manual transmission in order to get through truck driving school. Manual is hard when you first learn it, but after you get used to it it becomes easy. After time you will be shifting the gears and not even realize your doing it. Good luck

Between now and Aug(?) research as much as you can on all the companies available.
Maybe spend some time at truckstop talk to real drivers see what they have to say about their company.
Ask them how long they have drove for that company.
Who else have they drove for?
Why did they leave?
Do the drivers look rested? Or rode hard and put up wet?
Trucks in decent shape, fairley clean?
Now is the time to do some homework!
Be advised, all companies will have nay sayers!!
Good luck!!

This should give you an idea of the questions you should be asking:

http://www.ooida.com/Swimming_sharks...o_drivers.html

Don't touch lease purchase or any company that pushes it with a ten foot pole. It's a rigged game that is the modern day transportation industry version of sharecropping. Use the search feature on here, its been beat to death.

If you are more literary read "Sweatshops on Wheels" by Richard Belzer to understand just how crappy long hauling can be.
