99 Volvo Problems
Thinking of buying a 1999 Volvo 770. Has about 700000 on truck and 200000 on detroit 500 13 spd trans rebuild, paper work confirmed. Anyone have experience with this model volve. Have read front end problems also front axle weight problem. Not sure if fuel tanks are mounted forward or set back like newer Volvo. Any information appreciated.

They also had issues with the slave cylinder on the hydraulic clutch and the dashboard readout is prone to failure as well. That and the aforementioned steer axle issue are all that I remember when I worked on them back in 99.
I,ve always been impressed with the way the trucks rode and handled, the trucks I worked on were set up for flatbed and were equipped with Cummins engines (celect) and 10 speed trans. We ended up replacing the Solo self adjusting clutches early on as they didn't work.

I've heard the body shop guys say that Volvo was the best on the road.
There is a fiberglass cap on steel, from around the top of the door on up.
