Advice on Truck Purchase??
I am currently looking at a 2003 T800 KW Day cab to haul logs with, and was wanting advice and suggestions on this.
2003 T-800 KW Day Cab Mileage 459,917 Transmission: FRO16210C (Not sure what all that is, its a 10 speed) Gear Ratio: 4.33 Wheel Base 202" Suspension 40K AG 100 Air Gauges: Full Frame Single Tires 11R-24.5 Wheels Aluminum all around Fuel Tanks 150 Right Side only Engine: ISX - 475 Hp, Cummins Engine Brake: Yes MISC: Deck Plate, Stainless Steel Half Fenders, Fender Mirrors, Painted Visor, Fleet Maintained, Work Light, and Fifth Wheel Ramps. My questions are these: 1. What type of fuel mileage can I expect with this gear 4:33, be? 2. What is the Fifth Wheel Ramps that is listed on the spec sheet? 3. On the Transmission spec: FRO16210C, does this stand for some type of torque rating and does it affect the fuel mileage? I can get a 3 year, 300,000 mile Used Truck Warranty on this, deductible of $150.00 per occurrence, this is through the National Truck Protection Company. Total Price $57,000.00, with the Used Truck Warranty. 4. Does this seem like a fair price? I did not want to go with a newer truck, as I haul logs for a living and currently own a 1985 FLC Day cab, and want to update. 5. Does anyone know about the National Truck Protection Company out of Carlstadt NJ? I don't have any pictures to post as I have seen the spec sheet and pictures at the dealer, and the truck will be at the KW Dealership in Chattanooga TN this Friday or Saturday. Any advice and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

4:33 ratio sounds pretty low. IF your getting dragged in and out of the woods it would be alright but, if your hauling from yard to yard it could have a impact on fuel milage. Would probably go higher on the rears if that was the case.

The price seems a bit high. Only having a single fuel tank is rather odd. Pulling power should be good with the gear ratio, fuel mileage will be poor. The only 5th wheel ramps that I can think of are those used by some mobile home toters. They will put the escort vehicle on the top of the 5th wheel using ramps.

I would say that the 5th wheel ramps are ramps welded or bolted to the top of the frame just behind the 5th wheel to help lift a trailer that is sunk into the ground a little. The trailer hits the ramps and goes up and then onto the 5th wheel. You see them allot on off road trucks like logging or construction operations.

5th wheel ramps are use for low boys. Some trailers lean down when taken off. The ramps will prevent damage to the frame. They are nice to have. My truck has them, and the 03 I am buying has them also. I consider them a bonus. I am buying an 03 for $43,000 with C-15 3.90 gears and 13 speed. Freightliner Classic with all the goodies. 370k on the miles with ability to purchase 2 years on the motor for $1600. I consider it a good deal. The truck is in above average shape. It has been very well taken care of. I am selling my truck in picture if anybody interested. (new truck has been inserted) 1998 freightliner classic
with Baby C-10 cat, no jake, 488k on miles, single exhaust,9 spd. Not enough power for you Papa rick. Price is $12,900. Truck good for van freight. No problems. SOLD 9/18/07

for the price difference, PapaRick could buy the 98 and drop a bigger motor in it and still come out 20-30k cheaper. Of course it's a bit older also, but the miles are about the same?
That's not a bad price at all for a '98 daycab with under 500k miles by the way if anyone is looking for one.

Is there a place on the web for trucks, like NADA or Blue Book for cars?
Thanks Everyone for the advice, that is what is so great about this site, they can fool some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time. Any more advice I would greatly appreciate it. Hey GMAN, when you say poor mileage with the 4.33 rear ratio, what range could I expect with this set up? Thanks GMAN.

http://www.nada.com/b2b/products/onl...-80402340-8062 If my math is correct at 1500 rpm in 10th gear 54 mph... 1800 rpm = 64 mph Same set up with 390 rears 1500 rpm 60mph
