Yeah G-man, just missed the big Ft Wort one :-p, yeah doubt I will go to the Mexico one cuz I dont want the hassle of trying to get it registered here, yeah the Adesa ones look even better then the RB ones, especially one in Pittsberg in 2 weeks....lots to choose from and I only need to low bid once and be successfull to have made it worth my time. Going to fly out and drive the truck back like Steve did.....wish me luck LOL
Ohhh yeah....yeah Mack thks for the tips on price, yeah the hardest thing to fiqure out is what the dealers were charging then remember the dealer bought it for 10k less at auction. Right here 2002-2001 Petes are running 40-45k so I kinda believe he got it at auction for 30 k....going to bid 25-30k on one, but I am flexible to bid on the freightshakers too if I lose on the Petes. Harder to fnd the newer models. Usually like they have 1 or 2 2005 2-5 2003's, then oudels of 2000's I want the 2002-2003 theoritaclly, but hey, if I saw a clean 2000, could get it really low like 10-15k cash, maybe I could have saved enough to have the engine and tranny rebuilt?.....hmmm just a thought

You can get to the auction early and inspect the trucks they plan on selling. Some will allow inspections a day or so prior to the auction. It is a good time to check them out, make notes and come up with a maximum bid. If you have never been involved in an auction, it can be easy to get overly excited and start bidding against yourself. I have seen that happen a few times.

K, making my plans, thks for all the tips, going crss-country to N.C. by greyhound (yeah Im cheap but hope to save couple hundred) this way, leaving Monday and will be in Charlotte by Thursday, will rent a car there to get around locally for the day of the auction.
If this doesnt pan out for me need to get up tp Mercer PA for the Adessa auction there. Payment is my problem now, how to acess my $, I bank with citi-bank out here and they have oudels of branches, next to these locations a big 0.....hmmm thinking of carying 30k in bank drafts on me....various denomenations 2 10k and two 5k the max I plan to spend is the 30k; if I go above that I kind of hosed myself on the years I am looking at.Like to get newer then 2002 0r 2003 but doubt I can afford it. Yeah G-man...it is my very first auction and I am excited, called the guy at coastal earlier about pre-requirements (bonds n such) and he said none needed; Not sure what Adesa will require, to late to call them now, but will try in the morning. The plan being I fiqure out a way to get up there by MOnday should I strike-out at the Coastal auction. Yeah Big, that would sux, bought a truck and I cant drive it off even :-p

You could arrange for a bank letter of credit for up to a certain amount of money. You can also arrange for a bank transfer from your bank to theirs. A wire transfer can be in their bank within a few hours if it is done by their cut off. Otherwise, it may take until the next day. One other thing is that you might be able to do a pre-authorization for a bank cashiers check before you leave where you can make a phone call with the amount and they can over night the check to you. There is also one other thing. Some companies use a direct debit from your checking account with a copy of your check. I am not sure if this is available where you are going, but it is something to consider. And the last thing I can think of is if you have a debit card on your account, you may be able to use that like a credit card with them. Just a few thoughts. Most people I know who go to these auctions get a letter of credit from their bank. Some take cash, but that can be very risky if someone sees that you have a lot of cash. Good luck.

There is an auction on Wednesday 3/7/07 at Fort Wayne, IN incase you're in the area. Adesa is normally closed on the weekends so you might have to wait until Monday to reach them.
Jet Blue might be cheap to fly on instead of the Greyhound. If you go Greyhound certainly don't carry all cash.

Whew....shoulda went by train (the bus was a miserable trip in but couldnt justify the dble price to fly, dang didnt think of am-trak till I was gone tho), just made it into Charlotte, the mgrs special was gone already at freightliner so going to take a cab over to the auction in the morning.
So wish me luck I suppose, if I strike out on a bargin here up to Mercer for their auction Tuesday I think.

You may also want to check around a few of the bigger tow compaines. We impounded a 04 T2000 (C-15 500hp) a few months ago. The truck had 300k on it. It was in decent shape and rode good. It sold at our auction for 19k. When we (or any other company) impounds a car/truck/boat/whatever and nobody picks it up, in most states there has to be an auction at the tow yard. In FL, it has to be posted in a local paper and has to start at the current charges owed on the vehicle.
