They won't need to. The JB Hunts, SNI's, CRE's, Werner's, etc. will simply pick up the slack. There is, after all, a driver surplus right now. Why these idiotic O/O's feel it necessary to shoot themselves in the foot is beyond me. But more power to them. I hope they stay parked forever.

Then what exactly is the problem? If your business is profitable in a volitile market such as the one we are currently experiencing, then why would you feel it necessary to support your competition who obviously isn't running a profitable business?

I am not sure what the price of diesel has to do with people losing their homes due to high interest rates. Most people who are losing their homes due to interest rates are because they either didn't read the contract they signed or didn't care. They signed an agreement which allowed the mortgage company to raise the rates at set intervals (variable interest rates). It is my understanding that many of these people should not have qualified for a loan in the first place. I don't think it is the responsibility of government to bail the owner operator out any more than I believe that we should bail these banks out of their poor decision making. The mortgage people could work with customers to find a fixed rate or other solution to help them keep their homes and keep foreclosures to a minimum.

Things are difficult, but when you are in business, you learn to make adjustments to changing conditions or go out of business. What you and so many others don't realize is that much of what is happening with these high fuel costs is related to the government becoming too involved in our business. Government is NEVER a solution to an economic situation. Most of the time they are actually the cause, either directly or indirectly. The government benefits directly when fuel prices go up. One other thing to keep in mind is that it was the GOVERNMENT who allowed the major oil companies to merge, thus reducing competition. It was the GOVERNMENT who prohibited the oil industry to drill in known rich oil fields, thus reducing our dependency on foreign sources. It was the GOVERNMENT who failed to put a comprehensive energy policy together. It was the GOVERNMENT who would not allow new refineries to be build, thus reducing our capacity to process more oil and possibly reduce prices. I could go on, but I think you see my point. Besides, I don't understand what you really want the government to do about fuel prices.

Exactly how is PA going to bring down the price of fuel across the country? So you guys f%^K up traffic in the state capital. Big deal. If your looking for the state to low the tax on fuel, not happening. The Gov wants to INCREASE the gasoline tax so PENNDOT will have more money to fix the roads aand bridges. This has been an on-going fight long before gas prices spiked.

Gman, I really respect your input, but I believe you answered your own question by what you posted. As you stated the government got us in this mess, now they need to correct it. A man has to do what he feels right. If enough of us take a stand against the rising fuel cost than maybe they will listen. This has nothing to do with making adjustments to our businesses. We are tired of getting raped at the pumps and not just for big trucks but for 4wheelers as well.

It just seems to me that every time the government gets involved, it costs us more money and makes it more difficult to do business.

Well, I appreciate that. In the meantime, I will continue to run profitable loads, so that my customers' needs will continue to be taken care of, since you have no desire to do so.

So? The fact is that the chickens have begun to roost. We Americans have had it so easy and CHEAP that then the price correct themselves to reflect upwards to what everyone ELSE in the world has been paying for fuel FOREVER.. some people demand to have their drug of choice (speed and fuel) provided to them by the taxpayers.. This is laughable! Have fun sitting on your tookus watching everyone else pull the freight that you refused to pull. This isn't going to end well for those who are chasing their tails demanding things from people and places who do not control the price of any of it. You won't hear ANYTHING about this farce by this time next week.
