Arrow Trucking is shutdown
Arrow in Tulsa shut down. You may want to give some of their drivers a ride if needed.

Shouldn't be that hard to believe, thats how these low life rate cutter companies operate. The owner should be held responsible, after all this was not a decision made just this morning, he/they knew this for probably weeks, just too bad the drivers are getting hung out to dry right before the holidays. Yea....that could work, Dave. And rates would likely go up. Just look at the clunkers program. Once the program went into effect dealers raised their prices to full retail+. They made a killing. With government transport leading the way shippers and brokers would be paying higher prices in no time. Workers would be paying back much of their higher wages in higher taxes to pay for the acquisition of their new company. Hey....it could work!!

I knew about this in a rough sense about 12 hours before they shut the doors, but I wasn't secure enough in my information to post a warning on here. I was NOT aware they would go down this way or I would have started making phone calls sooner - I heard they were done, but figured they had at least a week or two while they made arrangements to get all the trucks back to the terminals and drivers home.
Arrow's been in a rough way for a long time now. Doug ran a great company straight into the ground and then couldn't even stand up and warn people that we were in trouble. I find myself blessed to be at Crete Carrier right now finishing up orientation today or I would have been one of the displaced office folks like so many of my friends. I am working directly with the recruiting department of Crete/Shaffer/Hunt to help track down my fellow Arrow drivers - they know I worked in Safety here, and I have had many folks pass their best wishes on to all of those displaced by Arrow's closing. The Crete family is ready, willing, and able to take on some drivers who wish to come to us regardless of if you want to do van, reefer or flats. Please, if you find an Arrow driver, have them contact me. PM me for my personal cell phone number. At Arrow we were family, and I will do whatever I can for my brothers and sisters on the road and in the office. ~ lora

It really is no surprise that Arrow went under. There will likely be other large carriers to follow in the near future. Everybody has been play the “how low can you go” game with the rates. The philosophy with these companies is to outlast the competition and then grab the customers when one of them goes under. They figure that the last few standing will make a killing when volume picks back up and they set the rates to be whatever they want because they will almost have a monopoly in the market. Many carriers have been running at a loss for the last year or more, and we should start seeing them fall one by one very soon.
As for the way Arrow closed up shop… this is not unusual. I was living in the Orlando area when CF went under, and according to some guys I knew there, the way they handled it was to announce at the Labor Day employee picnic that effective that next Monday, none of them had jobs anymore. I would not have like to be the poor SOB that was sent out to make THAT announcement. I worked for a family run company once that had about 100 trucks. At 4am, the owner came in with rented armed guards, ordered the mechanics, dock guys and one dispatcher off the property and locked the gates. The office staff came in the morning to find the place dark and locked up. Drivers on the road were told nothing until they had to be told. Fuel cards were shut off and drivers were stranded on the road. It wasn’t a good situation.
