It says in my Rand McNally truck atlas the different states' tax rates. i would average the rates for the states you run and multiply that by your miles to get a *rough* estimate.

You're prolly smarter than me, I don't file mine- my carrier does. Hopefully an independent can give you a more black and white answer.
But, if you have the road atlas, you can calculate it (almost) to a T if ya know how many miles you ran in what state, and how many gallons you bought per state, per quarter. I'm sure the tax info can be found online somehwere. HTH

The only way to get accurate rates is to go to their website. Most states maintain the same rates but some may change from one quarter to another. I believe this is the correct website address.

Maybe you should have an accountant do it. Fuel tax is calculated by the number of gallons consumed in each state. If you bought more fuel than used than you get a credit from that state. If you used more than you bought than you owe. You apply the credits to the states you owe and that is where you get a figure on how much you owe. I know I know. I was confused myself before. Hope this helps. Here is an example :You drive 215 miles in AL and buy NO fuel. Your truck gets 5mpg(varies)and you use 43 gallons in AL. If AL's fuel tax is .16 a gallon than you owe AL 6.88 for that one trip. IF you buy 200 gallons in GA and you drive 200 miles in Ga than you will get a credit from Ga.IF GA's fuel tax rate is .22 a gallon than Ga owes you 34.00. That is how it works.
