Conventional Truck W/ Sleeper For Sale
You Searched For: NEW or USED listings in the HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS - CONVENTIONAL TRUCK W/ SLEEPER category, between $100.00 and $25,000.00 where the mileage is between 100,000 miles and 800,000 miles

There are PLENTY of trucks out there with 800k miles that if taken care of drive much like a 300k truck, I've owned 2 of them myself. Be a smart shopper, and you can do ok on your truck purchase.

Lets drop the search down to trucks with less than 300k on the clock and see what we have:

Again, good trucks and deals are out there.

Just Google "Cyanide" + "Superior Carriers" and read the thread!

Why you want get into trucking? A smart businessman will not invest in a venture with such small profit margins and high percentage of failure.

You only get into trucking as a paying hobby. Because you love driving and wrenching nice trucks and working in the outdoors. It's hard work and the pay is low.

These new O/Os with their spreadsheets and P&L statements who think they're the Donald Trump of diesel make me chuckle.

So if you love nice trucks, why do you want to drive a POS beat up, abused used truck and a rusty dented trailer? I bought all my shit new right from the git go.

Think of me. I am sick to death of seeing all these ugly pieces of crap used fleet unit being pulled around by the $1/mi O/O crowd.

I like to see nice undamaged hoods running around. Makes me feel proud of my peers. Life's too short to drive an ugly truck.

Besides what are you gonna haul? Ain't no freight!

Again from truck paper, with a more refined and IMO a somewhat more realistic search.
We get a grand total of 9 trucks.
7 are old hoods with flat top bunks, a 9 year old Volvo and a 7 year old Columbia.
Yep. Tons to choose from.
:P

I think I am going to park mine for a while, after I do a move later this month I already contracted for.
Went on Internet Truckstop yesterday (Was to windy to fish ) and using my normal search for the type of stuff I haul there were only 102 loads nationwide where normally it runs about 450 to 500 and non of those paid worth a sh1t

Just because a truck has high miles doesn't necessarily mean that it is worn out or you will need to spend a lot of money on it to keep it going. There are some high mileage trucks that have had a lot of work done on them, including an in-frame. If a truck has been well maintained it could get over a million miles before needing an overhaul. When the economy is down it is much easier to survive when you either have a paid for truck or one with low payments. When you have big payments you could easily get into trouble very quickly. I receive notices from GE Capital and others about auctions. There are thousands of trucks and trailers are on the auction block. Individuals and carriers over extended themselves and when the economy went south they could not keep up their obligations. The positive aspect is that if you have the cash or credit you can get a good deal and save a lot of money.

There are also some older trucks that have been well maintained and still look good. I looked at a Peterbilt a few months ago that a guy traded in on a newer truck. He had done a lot of work on it. The miles were high, but he had replaced the turbo and a number of other things on the truck. Although the dealer didn't have the paperwork, I believe he may have done an in-frame not too long before trading. Either that or he had the engine painted. I believe the truck had over a million miles showing on the odometer. I think the dealer wanted about $25,000 or so for the truck. I didn't want the truck because of the poor fuel economy.
