I think you're illegal and they just aren't enforcing it.

To tell you the truth I have no idea what my wheelbase is. I've looked at all my documents and stickers in the past and can't find any info.
ya gotta measure it. Center of steers to middle of tandems.

Rank, is it like daylight up there when it's night time in NH. If I remember correctly, when it's Sunday here it's Saturday there or is it Friday?
23 hours of darkness this time of year.

Saturday night everybody watches Hockey Night In Canada. If you're in a bar, the music stops in the first intermission so everyone can listen to Don Cherry.

Your truck is already red so how about painting a big white vertical stripe with a maple leaf on it? No trouble clearing customs then.

Here's a page from the Ministry of Transportation Ontario book. Make of it what you will.

Do you mean in the middle of both sets of tandems in mid air? Or, to the center axle of the most reward tandem?

EDIT:
Never mind, just saved the image, brought it up in Paintshop and sharpened it so I was able to see that it's in the middle of both sets of tandems.

According to this, it appears the 244" only applies to long combinations (which, I believe, is a 53' trailer). I can't confirm this, but >244" may be legal if it's pulling a 48' trailer.

Mike, I assume you're mostly pulling 48's up here and the time you got the ticket was with a 53' is that right?

The problem isn't going into Canada, it's going into the USA!

With Canada, you just fax your paperwork(INCLUDING BOL) to the broker, put which border crossing on the paperwork(I put ETA and a callback number as well, although I've never had them call back). Wait a couple hours, call the broker, if they said it's good to go *usually* you're fine. Don't forget to put a PARS sticker on it! Also, they want a copy of each page, for example if you have 3 pages, make a copy of the 3 pages, and paper clip the originals together in one bunch and the copies in another bunch. Sometimes they want a "paper copy" and that will take care of the paper copy, otherwise they will send you inside(and will be pissed off too!).

USA is another whole ball of wax. PAPS is similar to pars, but they do not want the paper copy. You need a manifest with all the load information on it. You need to put the PAPS sticker on this manifest as well. After the paperwork is confirmed to be in, you'll need to do an "e-manifest" which you can set up to work online, that would work out best for you.

I'd also recommend a FAST card. Cost is $50 US. You cannot clear "line releases" without it. Line releases are pre-cleared shipments that do not need to be faxed.

I don't know how much it would cost to get your carrier FAST approved, and honestly I don't really recommend it. Unless you're hauling for ford or another one of those companies.

What Allan says is spot on. The only thing I can add is that the customs broker can do thet ACE e-manifest for a small fee. It's really not worth getting an AC account for just a few shipments IMO.

But considering steve already has an aircard, he could do it himself and save his money.
