264"!!!!!!!!
Holy smoke you guys have long trucks down there. Is that to the center of the tandems? You may still be OK if your overall length is less than 75'. You must be about 70" am I right. I'll call the Ontario DOT and ask.

Steve,I have been running through Ontario for the last 8 years, you will never have a problem with the set up you have.If you go and buy a 53' trailer then you would eventually get caught,I only got caught with a 53' after about 3 months of pulling it.
It is much more important to keep your truck and trailer in tip top shape than anything else in Canada, but they are not as bad as some will make it out to be.I have only been inspected 3 times in 8 years and that is crossing 3 scales in 180 miles every trip.I passed everytime and the MTO officers were all friendly to me as I was to them.

Hey guys. Newbie to this forum but my truck goes to Canada at least once or twice a week and I HAD to read up on the wheel base issue because when my darling husband had his truck built he asked for a 300 inch wheel base! I couldn't tell you why but he did.
He can go to Ontario with his truck as long as he only hauls a 48' van. Ontario only cares about the overall length, not the truck's wheelbase. However, we cannot go to any other province in Canada. Ontario is the only province that does not have the 244 max wheelbase requirement. We have been running Ontario for a few years now and it seems to be the hot ticket rate and demand wise. You no longer have to have a Canadian Authority to run Ontario but you DO have to have the following: CVOR SCAC Code Canadian Carrier number (to be used on Pars and paps) PARS barcodes to put on your bol going from US to Canada (the barcode identifies your company) PAPS barcodes to put on your bol going from Canada to US E-Manifest must be submitted to customs coming back into the us along with the paperwork that goes to the customs broker. There is no cost to download the program from the govt and its not that hard to use and they give you online training as well. Then you can get the sticker for your truck that lets them scan you as you approach the customs office. It's like prepass for weigh stations. The way this is supposed to work soon is that when you come back to the US you will get your freight cleared through a customs broker and they will send it to customs, you do the E-manifest and that gets sent to customs. That identifies the carrier, the equipment, the driver, and confirms the freight that the customs broker submitted. Then if you have the transmitter on your truck the customs guy can scan you as you approach, check the computer for your paperwork and send you on through without you having to stop. Its supposed to make getting across the bridge MUCH easier. Its not bad if you know what you are doing but coming back into the US with incorrect paperwork or before you have been cleared can subject you to an instant $5000 fine! Don't send anyone you wouldn't trust to do it right every time.

Awww thanks No Worries!
And YES I do understand about you boys and your toys! lol His motto on his truck is "Cool aint Cheap" lol (and he WASN'T kidding!) He added the extra length because he has a Toy Traxx system behind the cab that he hauls his motorcycle around on so he can play while waiting for his damn dispatcher (me) to find him a load. lol |
