A day in the life of a hobby trucker

I will just slide the unit across and then I'm done with up top and everything else gets done inside the cab. So far so good.

It's coming out great but slow moving today due to the heat. The hole came out great and was easy to cut. The unit is sitting on top of the truck and everything else will be done inside. The hardest part will be running the power cord behind everything. I should be up and running tomorrow morning and will take pics.
My cab is made of fiberglass and cut like butter with a saber saw. Took like 60 seconds. The insulation and headliner was cut with a razor in no time. You can really hack up the inside if you wanted to. The inside part is much larger than the hole. You basically crank down 4 long bolts that sandwich the inside unit to the roof unit. There a couple of mate-n-lock connectors that plug in from the top unit to the bottom unit then run the power to an outlet. I have 2 20amp lines inside the truck. One is used for the microwave and everything else. The other one is connected to the block heater so I'll just plug the A/C unit in there during the summer. I did loose my overhead light but the inside A/C unit has a huge blank surface that I can mount a new light. I'm going to the local RV dealer and see what they have for lighting.

So what is supporting this 90lb overhead dead weight? Did you have to bolt in additional support beams? How did you determine what the support structure was behind all the side / top liners?

Can you provide some dimensions on the hole and the unit?

Here is the installation manual with exact dimensions. You have to cut a 14x14 hole in the top. You also have to make a 14x14 frame to go inside between the inside unit and the underside of the roof.
http://www.airv.carrier.com/Files/Ai...e/71RC6A54.PDF My roof was pretty strong to begin with but after cutting the hole it was weak. Between the wooden frame I built and the real sturdy inside plate it will be very strong. The 4 bolts are big that sandwich the wooden frame between the inside metal plate and the rooftop unit. After bolting it down you put the nice decorative control panel on that covers up everything.

I bought the unit on the Web from www.RVWholesalers.com. Shipping was free and it arrived 3 days later.
