Your dreaming. That's what should happen but doesn't. Maybe for your shipper but that is not the norm. That's why there are 50 trucks sitting at the border waiting.

dreaming? nope.
The only variation might be the shipper doesn't fax, and I have to go to a truck stop to fax.

Unless the shipper and customs broker are on the ball it doesn't do any good. You end up sitting and waiting for the broker to do the paperwork while you wait. There is NOTHING a driver can do about this. I have only been through the border once where all the paper work was done and they scanned my sticker. The rest of the time I sit and wait for it to be done.
I'm just telling Doghouse the way it is and what he needs. Passport, no criminal record and your cab card updated. If you want to get your Canadian Carrier code, Paps and Pars stickers go ahead but not necessary and you WILL see what I'm talking about. Up to you but not required.

Steve with all the straight loads I've crossed the border, probably 300 times or so, a small percentage I've had to go inside.
You just need to make sure the entry is in. Sometimes that doesn't matter though, because it needs to be inspected for whatever reason, or the broker screwed up.

I'm also curious about US bound loads, and PAPS stickers. If you're not making sure that's in, you set yourself up for a possible $5000 fine.

I'm pretty much done with Canada unless they pay me a ludicrous amount of money. Only one shipper has done the paper work correctly. All the rest I end up sitting and waiting.

But it's not up to the shipper to get the paperwork to customs, since they need your pars sticker.
Only the courteous ones tend to fax. Even then, you still have to call the broker to make sure it's in.

I used to go into Canada a lot. I never had a problem except once. I forgot to get a manifest from the Canadian shipper. I suppose things could have gotten worse since then. I just got tired of the hassle of crossing the border after 911. It was more the wait to cross than any particular difficulties.

I have had several opportunities to go into Canada the last couple of years. For the most part rates seem to be comparable to those in the U.S. Unless rates are considerably higher I can't see crossing the border.
