Next trip out try LTL to CA. You should do REAL GOOD on LTL out of the North East to the LA area. When we did LTL out of the NE it took us about 4 days to gather all up and then we would drop and pick up a few along the way. Usually 10 days total out and about 10 days back. We never picked up along the way back since vicky would get loads real close in NY to drop off.

I may try and start off my next trip from home with an LTL but it has to be at least $1.00 per mile and 20' of deck or less.
I've found that the really good paying LTL loads are the ones that only go 300 to 500 miles and pay $2.00 to $3.00 per mile and there seems to be tons of those. I went nuts on one of my runs back from the far West and finally got to upstate NY and said that's it. I'm dead heading home the 300 miles or so. There was still loads I could have taken but I did so good with all the others and my head was ready to explode.

I finally got my rate conformation this morning and sitting at the customer site in Tulare. I'm picking up 2 corn heads. Not sure if that's equipment or a couple of guys being shipped back to Nebraska.
What a bunch of rough freaking roads in California. Some are like washboards the whole way. Everything you have tucked away will move a millimeter on each bump until it somehow finds it's way onto the floor. I get here just as the owner is pulling up to open the gate. I see two big gates and ask if I pull into this one or that one. He comes off right off the bat with a didn't get laid last night attitude. He tells me that's not their property where I'm parked. I'm ready to tell him, I didn't ask who's property I'm on, I asked which gate to enter into. So I start walking back to my truck and then he tells me which one. GEEZUS! So after I load today I'll have 15 feet of deck space left. Now here lies the problem. Do I sit here for the weekend hoping to fill it up if I don't get another partial today or do I start driving then try for something on Monday. I'm guessing I'll stay here for the whole day and try to get something. What I have on now is probably one of the best partials to get. Both going to the same state within 50 miles of each other and 15' of deck left. I've found that if I fill up the remainder with another load going to the same state it will be a pretty easy week of driving. Then again, I can fill it up with very short runs like 300 to 500 miles getting $2.00 bucks per mile for each one. Now also, I can take either route 40 through Texas or 70 through Denver. Each has it's own hot spots so once again, I think it's a crap shoot. Do I drive just 300 miles a day and wait for something to show up maybe or do I drive 600 miles then shutdown at 2pm and try to set something up for the next day. Either way I've got $2.00 per mile if I do nothing at all for a 3,000 mile trip. I know if I head north I'll hit Chicago and Detroit and if I head through Texas I'll hit a lot more high freight states but crapola roads and traffic. What I need is a red haired person who bleeds for 5 days without dieing to find me some partials along my route. Hmmmmm, who could I get for that?

F'ing CALTRANS has got to be the worst state DOT there is.
I wouldn't trust them to engineer and pave my driveway let alone keep up the I-5...

I just got my standard fax from C.H. Robinson that a signed BOL was not included with my invoice.
I've hauled many loads for these people and it's the exact same thing every single time. Normally I do nothing and it magically appears. This time I called and asked if this was standard practice to delay payment. I also told the lady you do this every time and every time the BOL just appears out of nowhere. She said she would look into it. She sounded like a robot. I had to let the phone ring at least 100 times before they answered also. Farging iceholes.

I'm in my truck with all 3 AC units running. I'm soaked with sweat.
They put the 2 corn heads on my truck and they stuck out the side about 1 foot. I was like, oh crap. I was lucky that they are able to dismantle some of it to bring it under the legal size. No phone calls today on the remainder of my partial truck. I'm gonna call some up and act childless to them like Orange says. Then maybe they'll give me a load to fill me up.
