New truck purchases are depreiciated over a number of years. Repairs are 100% deductible in the year they are incurred. Advantage:used......'specially for those that are undercapitalized IMO.
Where ya been Rev? Must be moving season.

In my situation, I have a 5 year note on my truck, and a 3 year, 300,000 mile warranty (5 years, 500K on the engine). My depreciation more than covered my taxes for the first 2 years - next year I'll end up paying some tax, but not a lot. I have 2 years of truck payments with no warranty and no depreciation - that is the area where I have to watch things. Fortunately for my situation, I am putting so few miles on the truck, that I will end up using up the 3 years of warranty before I use up the miles. There are things I've wanted to do to the truck, but I'm going to wait until my depreciation period is over, so I can take full advantage of the writeoff. I would say for an operation that is going to put a huge amount of miles on, a used truck with a small (or no) payment would probably work better, as the usefulness of the truck will be eaten up before its time.

Back home again yesterday. I showed up for the load and was there a few hours early. The manager saw my truck when he came in and said the load was canceled at 10pm last night. This is one of those permanent cranes that gets mounted to the ground. I guess it's going over a dock to lift boats out and someone screwed up. They realized it at the last minute that they measured wrong and the crane will not span the dock!!!
I was sort of glad because I just threw everything together after getting my truck out of the shop and left. I went back home and spent the whole day replacing air lines, adding oil, W/W fluid, cleaning, stocking and making the bed. I went to hook my trailer back up and it wouldn't lock in. I could see the jaws were still closed and could not figure how it got into this position. I tried for about 1/2 an hour then finally went inside and asked for help. The place I park my truck is a construction company and they have tons of big rigs. They were more than happy to help me out. One guy pulled the release lever way out and held it and the other stuck a pipe in there and pushed it open. Once again, the owner asked where I was going then called me an AS%%%hole. He comes over all the time and asks about my travels and would love to do it himself but can't. He use to drive trucks but local and never got to go over the road. I got a call around 2pm and the crane was a go for today. They are going to take it as it is. I'm curious how they are going to make it work. I have a feeling it will be cheaper to build something to support the shorter crane then it would to have it redesigned with larger beams. Each crane is custom for I'm sure they have to pay for there mistake. I'll bet someone is out of a job or in the hot seat. I had my truck posted yesterday when I found out the load was canceled. I got lots of calls but nothing I wanted to take. I was going to hold out and hopefully get something good on Friday. Half the calls I got was to take a load from like Virgina to some place. It's like DUH, I'm in NH 1200 miles from there. Don't you bone heads read my truck posting origin!!!! So, off I go to Utah in a bit. Not sure if I'll go rt 80 or rt 70.

Have a great Trip Steve, I am enjoying reading your adventures.
As for the calls for loads in Virgina, people do not read.

Thanks Coastie. I will as soon as I clear New England. I hate coming and going out of this region. I think I hate the talk on the CB just as much as the traffic and roads. I know, I know, turn if off but it is a neccesity and has saved me a few times. A brake check on a few occasions that would have surprised me had I not had the CB on. Another time my tarp came loose and was covering my tail lights on the trailer.
I did so much puttering yesterday I could hardly move last night. I ate 2 steak and cheese subs and was pretty much in a coma after that. I'm still sore and can tell this will be an Ibuprofen day today for sure. They are loading me a 7 this morning and I should be on the road by 12. Once again I'll just make it out of Mass and spend the night at a service plaza. I'm seriously considering moving this year and getting out of this area. My sister is moving to Florida in June so I may move there. Maybe get a small place in one of those over 50 places.

Isn't that the truth, shuffleboard, had to laugh.
That's all I hear about from my mom at her place. She's on the shuffleboard champion team! Have a good trip back out West.

They spent the whole day loading yesterday. 4 huge I beams that ending up being exactly 102" wide. They had to raise some up so they could slide the ends under the other ones. They started at 7 and were done at 3. Then I had to tarp. There was tons of other stuff put on top of the beams also. I was so dead I spent the night in the parking lot and told them I would need another day to make the delivery.
Once again my fingers are split open at the ends and it's hello Ibuprofen this morning. The customer found out it's going to be much cheaper to modify the place where the crane is going then to have a new one built so there's a team of engineers down there now fixing the site before I get there. One thing I notice with my new engine mounts is when I turn the motor off. It doesn't rock back and forth for a little but shuts down and stops almost immediately. At least I have the weekend to make it out of crap hole NY and the surrounding area. I think I would fit right in at one of those over 50 places in Florida. I would be very popular with the ladies since I can walk on my own.

And you could have any woman you wanted cuz of your pretty truck 8) It would be a big hit. They'd all want a turn going out on the road with you. Think you could manage all that?
