When I go out next time I'm going to be more prepared so that I can stay out longer and try and hit Wyoming, Montana and that neck of the woods. I need to see what has to be done to also start running in Canada which isn't far from NH.

You are going to find out what driving in Real Winter is all about.

OK, after I do Montana and Wyoming in the winter will that be enough or do I have to go to Alaska after that before I can say I'm a winter/snow driver?

Not much happened today other than 500 miles of New Mexico and Texas NOTHING!!!! Straight and flat. I felt like crawling into the back if the truck could steer itself. Really really boring.

I started out early this morning and was pretty much all alone on the highway and I see this guy on a side road that runs parallel to my right and he's got his high beams on plus a big huge spot light on his roof. I give him the high beams and all of a sudden he blows his train whistle!!! lol He had a CB and said it happens all the time.

I've pulled into 3 places so far to get my truck washed and either they are closed or they are doing them over again. I'm in a non chain truck stop and a big one off exit 126 on Rt 20. Really nice place with all sorts of goodies.

My destination in CT is only 120 miles from my house so I'm beating feet home after I deliver. Someone in here said the place is open 24 hours so that will be great.

Took a snooze in New Mexico at some Tiger something truck stop. I guess they use to have real tigers there but not any more. Plenty of pictures of them and the cages are still there. I keep meaning to circle all the places I like so far. I had a great breakfast after my nap and got a Mexican omelet that just about fried my tongue off. I paid for that in the end if ya know what I mean.

I woke up this morning about 1am and puttered around. The all of a sudden I heard this guy on the CB start yelling at everyone that someone better move there truck or he was going to yank someone out and bitch slap them. Man, this guy could really swear pretty good like Joe Pesche in Casino. My guess is that he was 4' nothing.

That brings up something else. I'm guessing you can tell a newbie like myself by how high his seat is. I mean, I'm up there and everyone else looks like a purple hair granny in Florida where you can only see the top of there head if your lucky. I tried getting down real low today through Texas but didn't like it.

I really notice the heavy load on the back on this trip. I have to watch out. It's almost like I have no brakes and you really have to push on the pedal so planning ahead is important. Going through construction I have at least 300 feet between me and the person in front. I don't care about anyone behind me anymore.

I always do the speed limit or 5mph below and seem to always have 2 or 3 trucks at least following me. It's probably a few people on here waiting for me to crash!!! lol

I also notice with this heavy load that if I rock a little starting off in 1st I think I hear slop in the 5th wheel. Is this normal or a sign a rebuild is in order?

Another question: Can you check tire pressure when your loaded or will you get a false reading?

I still can't understand a word most people are saying on the CB. It's almost like they have no teeth and are speaking a language all there own.
Still nobody talks to me except on a rare occasion. I bought a bunch of gum and chewed it up then stuck it to my teeth then filled my mouth with marbles and everyone was talking to me left and right like I was some super trucker!!!! Man, this guy must be a 50 year veteran hauling 300,000 pounds because I can't understand a word he's saying. Give me the mic honey, I want to talk to this guy!!! lol

I like the way this thread is going...the info is good and a lot of people really llike to follow online reports like this. As far as I'm concerned, Steve is more than welcome to continue with his postings and his stories, but let's keep it to a single post. The inflammatory postings and polls from both sides can stop now. Thanks in advance.

I rarely run with my seat down either. I have long legs (6'2"), and it's easier on my knees to leave the seat high.

It's likely that it just needs adjusting, to tighten the teeth up on it.

Nope. The only thing that will give you a false reading is checking them while they are hot, after driving on them.

Another thing you will notice is that once your 5th wheel is tightened, it will probably not loosen up much, as you are always pulling the same trailer. I've found that the more you open and close the 5th wheel, the quicker it gets out of whack.
