I've never done anything of the sort.
You also take great pleasure in attcking Steve and others and acting like a bully
I don't attack Steve. I call out BS when I see it. Steve, on the other hand, is well known for his all too common attacks.
it is about time someone gave YOU someone a taste of your own Medicene. Tastes bad.
Trust me I would by now be running on my own authrity by now also but I was forced to retire way to early.
At least Steve and Doghouse have the guts to try it
running for Grabel is like being an OVERPRICED company driver.
Explain that one, please. I'd love to know what your reasoning for that claim is. I do find it really amazing that you think it's okay to attack me in a thread I hadn't even posted in.

Dog..LTL with a flatbed or stepdeck can be very profitable. The thing is, you have to only pick those partials that do work, and do not let anyone make you feel preassured to make a quick delivery..unless of course that person is paying "Expedited Service" rates. On standard LTL movement, the truck has 21 days to get the partial delivered(industry standard).
Each partial pay's by the foot of deck space required. If a partial requires 10 feet of deck, weighs 1700# and is moving say 700 miles, the rate to make that move should be $400 -485. If the weight is in the 15,000# range it should pay $700 - 850. The broker that was putting 3 partials together, then telling you it was only paying $1.27 per mile, was lying through his teeth on the rate. With ltl, if you have 3 picks, you should only have 3 drops. If a pick has anything more than 1 drop, you set the drop rate($$$) for each additional drop, just like YRC or FedEx or UPS will. Doing LTL, if you run a tight route, and use your deck space wisely, you should run at $3.85 to $4.85 a mile easily. Flatbed ltl pay's far better than van ltl.

It's funny that guy got mad. I will never understand some people, it's like standing on someone's neck and then get mad when they are trying to squirm free.
Great answer btw Orangetxguy, it's amazing the help that's provided here. Good luck Doghouse!

Second, I posted some prelim 2007 #'s of my 2 truck operation in another thread, and since you need a R.I.F. program I will recap for you. Truck 1= $188k Gross @ 104k miles.( I drive this one) Truck 2 = $196k gross @ 116k miles, driver W-2 wages $54k. Truck #2 and both trailers (2001 and 2003 w/TK units) paid for. Attack away.... I don't care. Third... work on your spelling and grammar before you post again..

Orange..I have tried LTL,..and just the planning of it is enough to drive me insane :? . It seems like I would need a full time dispatch service to juggle an LTL run. I just tried to put one together Starting in Tucson ($900-1,700lbs-15' to Seattle delivers on 1/30/08) and Chandler (400-3,000lbs-2pallets-to Citrus heights,CA) total $1,300 and thats just not enough to go that far. Now I tried to add to it, but none of the pick-ups and delivers were within reason.
I am thinking about getting a small warehouse and a 26,000lb straight truck in Florida (Live Oak area) and then trying the LTL from there, but to do it out here from the truck just drives me mad. You're right,..LTL should be around $4.00per mile, and I certainly wouldn't do it for much less than that. merrick.. Today I had a broker tell me that my terms and conditions to accept a load were not acceptable. I politely told her that I was not interested in doing business with a broker who thinks my rules are too much for them. I told her that I run my operation up front with no surprises, and if you can't accept my terms than your operation has somthing to hide and I have no interest in working with you. Gotta watch these guys,..it a dog eat dog world,.....and this dog's not on the menu. Bigmon..I checked all of them,..thanks for the heads up on those,..but some were too heavy for me and some were in North NM and I'm not ready to DH that far,......yet

I'm assuming DH got out today or he would have posted something for lack of anything better to do.
I probably have hauled something most of you haven't but I can't tell you what it is because I don't know myself. Twice already I've hauled a small container for the Navy from one port to another. It's about the size of a small rectangular metal trash container. It's the only thing I'm allowed to carry and when I get to the Navel base in Virginia they are waiting for it and it gets hoisted onto an aircraft carrier. My shipping papers are always blank except for a phone number if I'm stopped. I asked once what it was and they said it was pigs blankets? |
