I'm thinking about heading to Casa Grande, but I can't convince myself to move untill I know which way to go. Casa is a 120 dh if I have to come back through Tucson,....and that irks me.

It takes a lot of planning and effort to make LTL work. It is difficult to do when you are also driving the truck. I have have had few drivers who were willing to put in the effort to do LTL. It does require a lot of patience. Some drivers find it difficult to sit while I put something together. I try to line up at least 2 LTL's before committing. If I can get one that pays enough, then I will often go ahead and pick it up from the shipper and build up from there.

Hold up, I can't let this pass without notice. A warehouse, where did that come from? I like this idea a lot. More than a lot, but so far it is just a vague idea that I'm burning to learn more about.

Just curious, what train of thought led you to this and what potential do you foresee for this?

LoadIt had a warehouse but he disapeared, hoping he pops back in. I notice Landstar has opportunities for people that own warehouses. Actually I'm not sure what they do with them but the have some thing on their website for warehouses.

I read an article recently that there was a big demand for shippers and or receivers to have extra storage. The article further talked about a guy that had a warehouse and offered delivery too. He said he had more business then he could handle. I think Ryder and Penske have setups like this too.

Any chance that you could post the link to that? That Ryder is something else. When I delivered in Johnson City, Tenn there was an old man that was a driver for Ryder. Apparently he worked for a bakery for many years in Florida as a driver and I think they now have Ryder handle their logistics. The trucks come up from Florida and then they have local drivers like him make the deliveries.

That reminds me I was going to call Ryder (I think they are based down here) and see if they deal with outside carriers.

Anyway sorry to digress, yeah I like this warehouse idea.

Great answer btw Orangetxguy, it's amazing the help that's provided here. Good luck Doghouse!

I don't understand some of these doofus brokers either. I called on one load that was supposed to pick up in Mo going to Wi. 600 miles and she said 800.00  I told her I normally do it for 1300.00 and she got all pissy and said she will do it for 750.00 than. I asked her if it was that time of the month and than hung up. 15 minutes later a broker calls me and needs a truck in KS to load for Austin,Tx. We agreed on 2.30 a mile. Not the greatest rate on going to that part of TX but for me it will do. Some brokers and shippers are as different as night and day. It would be nice if at least half of these rate-cutting clowns fold up and dissappear.

merrick..
Its just an idea I had,..this kind of thing happens to me when I sit and think too much.
I thought that if I had an empty warehouse in Lake City (where we are moving to in the fall) and a 26,000lb flatbed straight truck. I could have a radius that I drove with the smaller truck, store the freight in my warehouse, and then do LTL with some amount of sanity.
There is a lot of $$ in LTL, if I had a way to do it out here I would, but I have tried and its too hard with being in the truck also.
I don't mind the extra stops or the wait while its put together. It seems as though all the ones I have looked at have a short delivery timeframe, and that just won't work if I'm trying to put this kind of thing together in my truck.
So back to square one,......how to get the hell out of Tucson without spending a mint on DH fuel!!
I'm just going to sit here and rot in this fu%^ing desert for the weekend.

DH out of there. If there is no freight there is no point of sitting there unless you live there.

Every day sitting is costing you, move to a better area and take your chances, what makes you think Monday will be better?

I'm hoping that Monday will be better, anyway I have repairs to do to the truck so it won't be too much of a loss. I will DH out of here on Monday if I don't get a bite.
I have something going in El Paso, but was unable to receive a rate conf. before they closed. I'll wait til Monday on that as well,...I need the document,..or its my loss when they bail.
