Default doing your own wrenching

when I hear of the astronomical bills involved with engine work, it makes me wonder... is it out of the question to do your own wrenching like taking the head off
and taking it to a head grinder just like if it were a jeep and re install it yourself.??
does anyone do their own engine work???or wheel bearings, or clutch..??

most stuff i do is. my own tire work, brakes ,oil changes and then little stuff. When it comes to really big things in the motor i dont trust my self and pay a pro.

I'll do everything except engine/transmission. Might start doing that now that we have a big shop.

I do most what I can. but there are times where I take truck in to get stuff done, even if I can fix myself. downtime can cost more than you save in doing yourself at times.

I've been a company driver for almost 11 years now. I don't think I could remember how to use tools.

Hellll yeah! If you can melt metal and raise a ton you can do it all in between. Real truckers have grease under their nails and busted knuckles.

Ive always done my own mechanic work. Rebuilt my old KW and Frieghtliner (up to tuning it that is). Hell I sold the Frieghtliner to one of my drivers who isn't quite mechanically inclined so I still find myself wrenching on it when hes close just to keep the man rolling.
