Hey Bigmon , stupid me just noticed your post about video taping the auctions. Glad to hear that . I did call back to Copart today and ofcoarse got the run around. As I posted before, my Ins company called and said Copart wanted to be named as insured on my policy. Well I wanted to findout if they were going to be using me enough to pay additional on my ins. I called first thing this am and was told that ED was on his way in from Altanta. Was told to call back at 12.00 . I did that and was told to call back later because he had not gotten there yet. I called once more about 2:45 and was told again that he was not there. I can't even begin to count how many calls I have made there trying to speak to him . I am beginning to wonder if the girls there have whacked him and stuffed his body in one of those wrecks

I'd write them off based on the additional insured issue by itself, not to mention the HUGE run around these arses are giving you. Move on Darin, they aren't worth it, if they jerk you around now what will they do when something bad happens or you want to get paid?

All they should need is to be named a certificate holder. When they are certificate holder they are notified if your insurance is canceled or expires. I don't see a need for them to be named additional insured. I would look around for other shippers.

Ok , I agree with you guys but here is the latest. I did finally talk to Ed . He said that everything was good except the Ins thing. He said he would have plenty of work for me if I get on with them . We talked about their rates and so forth and I told him of my recent experience with the dispatcher. I mentioned again my 4 car hauler and he said Oh you are the guy I talked to earlier, then went on saying stuff like man you will do really good . I being sceptical ask for some assurance before I forked out any more money , HE said ,"I will run you as much as possible" . Well, I admit I have been given the run around but I have invested so much already , two hundred dollars more ( for INS ) in not going to break me . I believe I will give them a try and see how it works out. This is what I have been waiting for . I don't understand the INS thing but I never was clear weather I had all the coverage needed anyway , besides I also found out that I can drop my 100,000 Cargo to 75,000 if I choose because that is all Copart requires . Believe you me , My Normal reaction in my past experiences I would have long ago told them to take a hike, but I can see a great opportunity for me with this.

OK, so I am a glutton for punishment. Update on the Copart thing. This morn I was told to get them named as additional insured, actually my Ins agent called me fri and told me this . I waited all day for my agent to do this, finally my agent called at 4:00 and said my cargo Ins company does not do that . After drilling her with questions I came to the conclusion that it is my liabilty Ins that Copart wants to be named as additional Ins . Gee, I figured this out on my own , you would think my agent would know this . I called back to Copart and a Miracle happened , I got Ed on the phone , wow things must be looking up . I asked him if infact it was the Liability that he needed to be named additional insured and he said yes , I think I almost cried with joy ( just kiddin) but he said that was it . I called Progressive and they said no problem we will take care of that right now but it will cost an additional $25.00 great I said , much better than the $ 200.00 I had been told when my brilliant Ins agent thought it was the Cargo.

Well, Darin, best of everything to you. You're gonna learn to love to hate Copart after a while.

Here's some info, though. Every car that goes through Copart is titled Salvage. That's all they deal in. Now, also go to the insurance compnies around there as well as the auto auctions and see if you can drum up some business there. Also finance companies are great places to get business, transporting repos from the repo man to the auctions. They don't pay great, but they will fill space when you need to. Keep after the auctions and be there on auction day passing out cards. You'll probably pick up a few dealers too.

BTW, aint it nice of Copart to let you pay for the insurance to cover them? The point of all that is that if a part flies off a car you are hauling for them, if the victim bypasses you and sues Copart, they just go right back to your insurance. Nice, huh? I never hauled FOR copart. I just hauled for buyers out of copart. They may treat you better that way, I don't know.

Best of luck!!!

Thanks Bandit for the info. Funny you said that about hauling for the buyers vs Copart . I did just that for my first trip. The buyer was very helpful and understanding . I had a hood on one of their cars ( which was damaged beyond repair when I picked it up) give me problems . I called the buyer and asked if I could remove it because it would not fasten down, he quickly said sure do what ever you think. Anyway, I gotta ask , why will I love to hate Copart? Are they difficult to deal with ? I guess I have sorta answered that question with what I have been thru already
but I assumed it was just bad timing, bad luck or whatever . I am at this time waiting on a package from Copart . Instructions, keys and checks . Not fully sure what all this is for but was told it would be explained before I get my first load. Also I got a rate from them for my area. It goes like this . 77.00 per car ( min two ) from Bowling Green KY to Copart which is actually in Lebanon TN . It around 66 miles . I am about 69 miles from Bowling Green . He said that he would get me loads back to Bowling green as well that pay the same and other loads in and around the Nashville area such as Murfeesboro which is not too far . He also said that I will get a better rate if it happens to be further that these examples . It was after this that I mentioned that I had a four car rollback and he said OH man , that changes everything , you will do even better than what I just said. ( On my initial call to Copart I told him I had a 4 car but he had forgotten) Anyway he could be blowing smoke but I will never know unless I try them out. I am thinking , if I do most loads around Bowling Green I could possibly rent me a parking place, leave the truck in Bowling Green and drive my car which gets 30 mpg down each time and save fuel . I am new at this and will figure it out as I go.

A secure place to park in Bowlin Green would be an advantage. However...has your CoPart contact mentioned anything about cars in your immediate area...or to the north & west of your area? Something you should try to discuss with them maybe, before making a parking commitment.

Just a suggestion.

Orange , You have a good point, I didn't really mention my immediate
area on my last conversation . When I very first talked to the Manager at Copart back in Dec ,I was told "in my area " the rates were 170.00 per car , 2 min, Atleast that is what I recall but I could have misunderstood. About three weeks ago I called them again ( 1 of many calls) and this time I got their dispatcher , that is when Bowling Green was first mentioned. She said they really needed someone in Bowling green so I guess my focus had been more on that area but I believe that if there is a need I will get the loads in my area . I assume they get a great deal of cars out of Bowling green but really don't know as of yet. When I talked to ED , the Manager on tuesday of this week he told me he would probably send me to different areas in and around Nashville ,and did mention that I would go to other areas that might be a bit further than Bowling Green and the rate would be adjusted . So my thought is if I get my load information and it looks like a lot of loads around Nashville, Bowling Green or other places local to their facility I might think about finding a good place to park , otherwise IF I see that I will have loads in my area , I will ofcoarse bring the truck home . My understanding is that I will get the load info and have 24 hours to pick and deliver , that is what their packet said. Ed on the otherhand said I will get 24-48 hours so I really am not sure about this. Anyway my truck gets good fuel milage so if I do end up bringing it home , it will not be so bad . I have to go thru Bowling Green to get to Copart anyway. Hope you can understand my mumble, jumble. Darin

LOL...Darin, I understood yer mumble-jumble just fine. Something to consider, is the manner in which you work the truck. If being home every night is a huge priortiy, then you will be seeing a lot of road, whether it is in the truck or in the car. The car is easier to maintain on a commute basis. Evry mile you put on the truck, is a mile you have to count towards doing maint. Dead miles are bad miles.

If you can live with being out 2 or 3 nights a week, and CoPart has enough work to justify staying out, then you might consider finding a decent priced motel that has truck parking, and camp there, while doing what you need to do, to work the truck. Camping would take a lot of stress off you personally, if it is something you can do.

Communicating with CoPart will be a big part of being successful. If you are able to pick up 3 or 4 cars in your area once a week or twice a week, then do the stuff CoPart can assign for you to pick up around BG and Nash, you should be able to make a decent living and turn a bit of profit, and see the house consistantly.

The big thing, is getting the hang of doing the work, and getting to the point you are able to turn a couple loads per day, working close to their facility. At $77 per car, with a 4-car load, that is $308. X2= $616.00. If you could turn $616 a day(and do it in 10 to 13 hours), plus add in the fuel surcharge, which should be separate from the per-car rate, you should do well.

Supplementing CoPart with other work, is also something that you will eventually want or need to work into the scene.

Just a thought.
