Double Brokering

Default Double Brokering

I got a message from a trucking company today but it's too late to call them. They say I took a double brokered load up to Canada. I did take that load and already got paid.

Why is this such a big deal to this company?

I've taken double brokered loads from other carriers also like C.H. Robinson.

Did you ask the trucking company who called you? Double brokering drives rates down. Most brokers have a double brokering statement in their contracts. Some don't appear to be able to read. Schneider uses other brokers to move their freight. You can sometimes get a better rate on one of their loads if you go to another broker. It doesn't make any sense that you could go to a second broker and get a better rate than you could from the source. Most of the time when you get a load that has been double brokered the rate is less than from the first one who had the load. Go figure. :?

It paid $7,800 on a little less then 3,000 miles.

I guess I should tell the whole story also.

The broker was out to lunch as far as what paperwork needed to be done for entry into Canada. He never answered his phone or returned my calls after the load was picked up.

I delivered the load then 3 days later I got a call from the owner of Kencor Heavy Trucking. He said he had given the load to Brown Trucking who double brokered it to me at $700 more then Kencor was paying him. He also found out that he had already racked up a sizable amount with no intentions of paying me or the one other truck he double brokered out for another load of the same thing.

The owner asked how much I was getting and he sent me a check for it even though it was $700 more then Brown was getting.

Kencor turned the local authorities on to him and I sent him a fax.

Don't bother sending me a check, Kencor paid me instead. Oh yea, you guys are A-Holes.

That was my killer load that I had LTL's along the way and ended up with $2,900 in other loads plus the original $7,800.

Yup, I was lucky Kencor noticed what was happening and contacted me.

You can check out a broker all you want until your blue in the face and see that they have a 100% A rating but when they decide to go out, they go out with a bang and make as much as possible.

That makes 3 brokers that have gone out owing tons of money to carriers that I have hauled for in the past. That stupid bond means nothing at all to be a broker.

Sorry it took so long. My account was disabled for 4 freaking days just because I changed my email address.

I can't find them anymore. They are gone. From what I understand it was not Brown trucking but another company using their name. I guess a new way is to reactivate an old company that is no longer in business and they are able to run for 30 days before the bond company realizes they are not going to pay their monthly bill. Something like that.

The ITS Security Department has uncovered a new scheme. Out of business companies with older MC# s are being reinstated to an active MC with new addresses, telephone numbers, and DOT numbers. The mailing addresses are either Mail Boxes Etc. or UPS postal boxes. These boxes are being used as mail forwarders. The telephone numbers are cards and cell phone telephones being purchased at mass merchandisers. It is our belief that companies are seeing the older MC# and assuming the company is old and reliable.
