Call me a liar, I don't really care.
I will post last weeks check stub when I get home or sooner if my wife can figure out how to scan something. It was $5900 something gross and I was paid $2900 something after fuel tax escrow, insurance, commission, 2009 base plate escrow, and fuel I am on my way to LA now with a Monday appointment and this load pays $3450 My pickup Tuesday for Des Moines pays $3200 If my math is right that's $6650 gross this week That is an average of 1.95 per mile gross. So what percentage does the company take out of that? At 6mpg average you would use about 590 gallons of fuel. At an average of 3.50 a gallon your fuel alone would cost over 2,000.00. If the company takes at least 75% of the gross that leaves 4987.50. Take out a little deadheading or out-of-route miles and all the other deductions and that comes to less than 2900.00 unless the truck always averages over 7mpg. IF it is a team operation than that pay is split. Plus you have a one day layover in L.a. of all places. AH,my english is improving.

And what is wrong with it? Assuming it's true, and the money, is his cut?
About 3400 miles, and $6,650 round trip, seems like a very sweet deal to me.....

Well, it's looks high, for the particular job to me too....
But "truckers math", it's when people see only the "gross", w/o considering all the expenses, and time involved(by my definition). That's why I've said;- "Assuming it's true, and the money, is his cut"....

Like I figured the wife couldn't figure out how to scan but she gave me the numbers
Revenue $5950 Commission $1190 Fuel Tax Escrow $35 Insurance $96.81 2009 Plates $100 Fuel $1614.92 My check amount $2913.27 The fuel amount depends on how much is in the tanks when I end the week. This week I started with 1/4 tank (I didn't fuel before unloading because fuel was dropping and I was going to be off for the weekend) so I had to fuel before leaving this week so my fuel bill will be higher this week but my revenue this week is going to be $700 more so it should balance out. Bob your figures are close, I would of been over $2,000 if i would of filled up before delivering. Truck is getting 6.8mpg. I just looked and my deadhead to pick up the load was 38 miles. The only bad time is when you take a week off and everything catches itself. Pay and fuel bill goes wed to wed so if you start after a week off and take off on Monday and deliver Thursday you are in the hole for fuel for the week. You don't have any revenue because you delivered after Wed but still put fuel in Mon-Wed. The next week your fuel bill is double what it usually is. I have got some $100 checks after taking time off. They pay the fuel bill daily. The layover in LA isn't bad. I pickup at the same place everyweek and they close at 6pm. I can go in there anytime after 6pm and back into the dock. The open at 6am and start loading and if I am not up yet they will knock on the door when they are done loading. We get 4-5 loads a week out of there. The other drivers haul hazmat to the ammo plant in Middletown Iowa

Hey FDMAX,
I'm gonna hijack the thread. If I can't get my Steve Booth fix I'll do anything I want! I had lunch with Elvin last week. I think Corky owns some kind of cell phone business in Humboldt. Merle is a trip. I met him when he was in High School, but never really knew him. 300lbs of barely in control. He's married & has a house in Redwood Valley. I think his wife & dad keep him on a pretty short leash most of the time. We did a 450 mile, two day dual-sport ride, the only thing more fun than the ride was having dinner with Merle. He kept the entire restaurant & bar well entertained. I remember your Dad's SC 70 from the Big Boat Series one year. I used to crew on SF Bay & did some short offshore races as well. My dream was always the Pacific Cup. I remember he had asked Elvin to come down & take the guest crew slot & Elvin wouldn't go. A buddy of mine, Fred, was an LP company driver & he was begging Elvin to go, or see if he could go instead. I can't remember the name of his boat, but I know back when I ws reading Latitude 38, there was a time when your Dad was winning about every race that mattered. Who are you driving for now? After a couple of decades away I went back to driving earlier this year. No money around here in real estate or construction. I had a wonderful lumber hauling job until the company went out of business. I'm thinking I need a big company type gig while I wait for the economic winds to shift. I'll be sure to give Merle some s^&t for you.

What's really entertaining is your ability to maintain the delusion that you know everything.

You should go back to selling used cars. It suits your personality better.
