From what I understand the pay per mile is pretty high ($2 something) but the amount of miles you'll run may be quite questionable.

I HAVE STARTED WITH 'EM A WEEK AGO. I'VE MADE $18 HUNDRED SO FARE. I AM NOT HAPPY AT ALL. SO, I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE KNOWS MORE ABOUT THEM. I ASKED AROUND OTHER DRIVERS BEFORE I STARTED. I HEARD GOOD THINGS. NOW I TALK DRIVERS EVERY DAY
AND I ONLY HEAR BAD THINGS. THESE GUYS WITH FEDEX FOR 4-8 MONTHS.

I think you just have to figure out if their system is works. I have sat for over 3 days in Texas and Vegas waiting on reloads. I've also deadheaded 500 miles to loads.

However, this isn't the first time I've heard about FedEx CC being like this :?

I'm with Bandit on this one. You can't jump ship b/c you have to wiat and deadhead a bit. Anything in any sort of specialized freight hauling (heavy haul, HHG etc.) I've sat in slow areas such as Tacoma Washington for almost a week, then had to deadhead alittle bit, but I had just emptied out an $18k linehaul, and was loading a $13k linehaul that was going 1k miles. That's $13.00 a mile, or about $8.00 a mile paid to the truck. That makes it okay and the waiting isn't as big of a deal. You can't expect to drop a load, turn around and be re-loaded and running again within the same day.

Call Panther2 and ask if this is how they run. They do the expedited thing too, for (advertised) similar pay.
