If your "route" was from SLC to Vermont that would normally been on I80. So how far "out of route" are you willing to go to look for and pick up LTL's as you make your way?[quote]

I'll go as far out of my route as the customer is willing to pay. I got $1.00 per mile for one piece of equipment that takes up 5' of my deck going to Vermont from Durango. The $1.00 per mile including my 228 mile trip to pick it up.

I've already picked up a few LTL's and dropped some off. I'm in Oak Grove Missouri at the moment with 2 peices headed to different sections of Vermont and I have 30' of deck open right now that I'll fill in the morning. I'm taking 70,71 and 90 up to Vermont and all good freight along the way. Like I said above, I'm already at $2.25 if I drop off in Vermont and head home with only what I have.

I really like this LTL stuff and it's easy to do. The stuff you pick up is never the size that they say. One load was suppose to be 20' and it was 27' but the next load was suppose to be 9' and it was 2'.

I've also been talking to a broker friend of mine who I'm going to start using to find me loads for a 5% commision. She will post my truck, negotiate the price and that's that. She is a freelance broker working from home and will do this on the side. I'll probably start using her after I head out on my next run from home.

I'm not sure how Pepe is doing. I really didn't ask. Actually, I couldn't get a word in edge wise. He's a talker for sure. He did show me how to walk like a Kung Foo master when someone is in your face!!! lol...private joke that only Pepe will understand if he reads this.

lol....I left Durango and took a left for Pagosa Springs and over the mountain.

I left around 2am and ran into a blizzard going up and over. Made it to the top by the skin of my teeth. The snow was getting worse and worse heading up and my drives were spinning so I was on the peddle like egg shells maintaining 30mph with a fine line between traction and nothing.

There was a 90 degree turn coming up and I didn't see any lights coming down so I cut the corner to keep my speed up. It was a 6% grade going up and all of a sudden there was 5 trucks spun out ahead of me.

They must have slowed for the corner and lost it.

They were spread apart and I kept on it and weaved my way through them and just made it to the top.

I pulled over at the top, thanked God 5 times and got into bed and didn't continue on for 8 hours.

That one pic looks like Silverthorn...am I right?
Also, when you went through Wolf Creek Pass & Pagosa Springs, were you hauling chickens?

No, just one chicken in the drivers seat, 6 hot tubs, 3 transformers and 1 hydraulic hammer.

I did go through Silverton. I took Rt 50 and 550 the whole way. I picked up then headed left on 160 after Pagosa Springs. That's where I hit that blizzard heading over the mountain.

lol....There should be a sign or something warning drivers that it's not recommended you take this route. There is no way 2 trucks can pass one another on many many sections. I had to stop a few times to let cars and trucks go by before I could make a corner.

You should see if you can download the song by CW McCall. Funny as heck but you can probably appreciate it.
