Go to your local Internal Revenue Service office and get a blank form 2290, fill it out, pay them $550.00, the IRS will stamp it "paid", and then you have your current 2290. Make copies of it to send in with your registration etc.

But can you pay it there and get it stamped "paid" right on the spot?

At the IRS office you can.

Sounded like he needed it yesterday to complete his lease deal and registration.

look here for your nearest office:

I've done the same thing. Go to the office. Be prepard to wait (it is a gov't office after all). I don't remember exactly what all you will need but obviously being prepared will save you a lot of hassle and possibly another trip.

You will need your entire VIN number for the 2290. You will also need a FEIN, but you can use your Social Security number. I was at the local IRS office last week and they didn't seem to be very busy. Unless they are really busy, you should be able to handle the entire transaction at the front desk. The forms are also easy to locate in most IRS offices. They will assist you in filling out the form, if needed, but it will take longer to conclude your business. I have found them to be very helpful at my local office. I am also in Tennessee. Once you pay the first time, they mail the forms to your home or business address the next year. It is much better to go to a local office rather than relying on the mail. You can be in and out in a matter of minutes by going in person.

Better yet, here's the PDF version of the instructions:

http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i2290.pdf

Here's the actual 2290 form:

http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f2290_06.pdf

Here's where I found the forms:

http://www.irs.gov/formspubs/lists/0,,id=97817,00.html

Now...do I get banned for posting all these links? LOL

**Edit** Apparently GMAN and I were responding at the same time. I was thinking the links of the actual forms would at least let you see them before you go to the office. You might have a better idea of what you need. I agree with GMAN, going to the office is the best way. I don't recall having a lot of problems with it and I knew very little about anything to do with trucks when I went in.

Good Luck,

Arky

It is a good idea to have the forms filled out before getting to the local IRS office. It can speed the process. Good idea, Arky.
