formula for hours to miles?
#2
60 mph = 1 mile per minute.
If you are asking about the formula that DOT uses, it is complicated. They have a "guide" that equalizes the various speed zones along a given route, that gives them an approximation of how long it should have taken you to go from point "A" to point "B". The other thing to do is to divide the number of miles from point "A" to point "B", by what ever speed you think you can average on the route. Garmin uses 70 mph for it's calculations, unless you have been moving. 1878 miles / 65mph= 29 hours rounded up driving time.

Not sure what you are thinking, but Hours on an engine does not equal miles. The hours meter counts all RUNNING time which includes idle time. If the truck is older and w/o a APU then the engine hours should be much higher than mileage.

That "Cat" guy didn't know to much about trucks then did he. Averaging 60 mph, just the driving time is 16,667 hours. That wouldn't include any idle time at all. A million miles is equivalant to about 25,000 I'm thinking....but I could be wrong.

Live example;- At the last oil change, 607,345 miles it was 14,347 hours on mine. Idling time is around 20-25%....

Well, it's not high by US standarts, i would guess that 40-50% is average. I have an Espar bunk heater, but still would idle for at least half an hour before start moving in a winter time, also A/C in a summer, and i do a lot of heavy traffic....
