Default Getting Authority

Hi everyone, I just wanted to get some opinions. I just got off the phone with Lynn from the Authority department at GetLoaded.com. They charge $635 to complete all of the Federal forms, and $874 to complete all the Federal and State of Florida forms, in order for us to get Authority. This includes the process agent, US DOT#, MC#, portion tag, fuel tax sticker application, UCRA3 etc.

Does this sound like a reasonable fee, or is the process easy enough to do ourselves?

Do it yourself. Lots of it's online. You can also go into your local DOT office and they will help you for free.

I would not pay someone to do what I can do for myself. You can go online and get your authority by paying the filing fee of $300. You pay the filing fee whether you do it yourself or pay someone to do it for you. If you are a member of OOIDA they will act as your registered agent for FREE. It isn't all that complicated to fill in the blanks on the website. Anyone you pay to do it will go online and fill in the blanks just as you can do yourself. I would be surprised if it took more than about 20 minutes or so. Even if it took an hour, it is still much less expensive to do it yourself. If you don't want to do it yourself, you may want to get in touch with OOIDA and see what they charge. It will likely be less than most of the other services. www.ooida.com

Thanks Gman. Yes we have decided to do it ourselves. When we went to apply for my husband's resident card (he is Panamanian) everyone told us it was too complicated a process and that we should hire an attorney. We decided to do it ourselves, and even though we kept getting letters from them to re-do some of the forms or re-submit information, thus making the process last a little longer, in the end we got it just fine.
