Hey LoadIT and Redclay
I know most of you guys wanna know what is going on with Landstar and how I moved from a Van to a Step.
I don't regret the move although I sweat more and it sometimes feels like I may never make it through the day. I just got back from Lansing , MI. Thanks to a guy named Richard who had about 10 yrs flatbed experience(3 yrs with landstar) who taught me how to tarp etc... and all the tricks. The challenge in securing platform freight hit me when I got to Portage, MI and I had to unsecure the 10' tarped load with about 2 inches of snow all over the tarp.I had to climb their 8 ' ladder and start crawling on top of the tall load.I also had to prevent myself from slipping on top at 6am in a 25 degree weather. Today, I just delivered a 46kibs of machinery/metals from Lansing ,MI to Greenwood SC.This was when I found out my max weight.I can max out at 46k on Landstar's steel step(half tank).I will assume my empty weight with the trailer is around 31k. I have many pics of loads I have secured but I just don't understand all that UB code stuff on here to post JPG pics. I have a few minor gremlins on the truck like brake chamber but the truck is holding up.I hope to get out of this trailer rental by feb. and free myself of this $170/week from Landstar. LOADIT, are you with Landstar? Some may disagree but I feel "step" loads are usually harder to secure than flat loads.

Henboy- I'm not with Landstar, I run my own authority, just wanted to see how you were doing and glad to see you progressing after that rocky start. You have realized that you have to specialize to make it and thats great! Good Luck and hang in there. Since you have that sd, check out Endura loads out of Jacksonville, Landstar runs it and its lightweight, not sure what it pays these days, also there is a place in S GA that Landstar loads chillers on sd that pays well.
