Everyone keeps missing the fact that around 70-75% of people never have another seizure on medication. Others, sadly medication just does not work for them. "The history of epilepsy is 3000 years of ignorance, stigma, and discrimination and 100 years of knowledge, stigma, and discrimination." Medical Journal. Yes someone that does not have control has no business driving.
I am just passing on the fact that the MRB is redoing all of the DOT medical qualifications.

Bunny I know my career is over however those with simples and partial with full control should be able to DRIVE. Epilepsy is the most misunderstood condition out there and the stigma that goes with even having it is unbelivable. I have an aunt that refuses to even let me into her house sinceI devolped my seizures since she is afraid I will have one and hurt myself at her house. Talk about being ostrosized. With everything I have been thru however this is the easiest.

Spoken like a true partisan... If you have ANY of these types of seizures, you do not have "full control"..

I know how misunderstood epilepsy is. I know there are totally ignorant people out there.. like my son's teacher who punishes him for "daydreaming" no matter how much information and education I provide her. But those with a history of seizures are unsafe behind the wheel of any vehicle. I have known people who had control over their seizures for 10+ years that all of a sudden had a seizure even while on medication. It happens. Trust me I know the stigmas.. I know the ignorance.. But I also know the risks and limitations.

Fozzy there are 3 major types of seizures simple were you stare off into space for a few seconds. Simple-partials were an extremity twitches but the person is aware and can function. Last is the GTC or Generlized Tonic Clonic or Grand Mal type which is what I have were the person falls to the ground loses control of bodily functions and also forgets about what happens and who they are. The worst part of being an Epileptic is not knowing even it is has been years since your last one when that next one will hit.

You don't think that someone who has extremity twiches is a danger behind the wheel of a truck? What about when they have one of those twiches during rush hour and their foot is on the gas pedal? Or better yet, what about when they have one of those twiches as a kid is crossing the street, and they are forced to hit the brake, but their limbs just won't function properly?

Sometimes those things occur in milliseconds....

Read up on what happens to your body when you sneeze. Maybe anybody thats ever sneezed should be disqualified as well.

After all....never know when it might happen again.

I've had plenty of experience with epileptics. My Mother and my sister.

My first experience was when my mother dropped me on my head at six months old. (No jokes....just sayin'

I grew up in a neighborhood that had one dead end street after another and about 90 kids all the same age as me. We played every single day until dark and it was AWESOME!!!!

Well, it's like 9pm and dark out and we come across Pete pretending to play dead on the ground. Normal thing ya know. See how many times you can kick him in the ribs before he gives up the act. That night he was real good so we went to plan B and started shoving grass and dirt down his mouth. Man, Pete should get an Academy award for this performance!!! Now on to plan C with dirt in his eyes. Holy crap, his eyes are up in his head.

Come to find out he had Epilepsy and his parents tried to keep it quiet. He ended up being OK but they arraigned to have a doctor come out to our baseball field (which we made) to give us a talk on how to handle and help him in the future. This was probably the best day for Pete and his parents when they realized that the whole neighborhood rallied together.

I just hope I never run into Pete again or he may hold me down and shove grass down my throat.

Big Diesel I really hope you end up with a conditon that makes you learn what I go through everyday. You seem to think that I am making up what happens during one and make fun of it. Lets see you loose your life long dream to a conditon that effects more than 3 million people in the US yet most people know LITTLE OR NOTHING ABOUT AND MAKE FUN ABOUT. I had never heard about Eplilepsy til I devolped it now I try to educate people about it and let me tell you it is a hard juob BECAUSE OF STUPID IDIOTS LIKE YOU.

Question you see someone having a GTC Seizure do you A hold them down B stick something into their mouth C Do nothing and let nature do its thing just move things out of the way. If you do A you will end up like my HR manager I had and be in the next ambulance with a broken arm and ribs and nose when you hold down an Epilictic during a seizure they will fight you harder than if you did nothing. Do B and you will have to break their Jaw to get something in their mouth the muscles are firing so hard that you can not get the mouth open that is what the tounge is for trust me mine gets chewed up. C is your only option called move anything if possible that the person will hurt them selves on if not pad it with a pillow then once the seizre is over let the person come around you get into their face to fast you WILL GET HIT AND HIT HARD AND END UP HURTING. Also no need to call an ambulance unless there is no one around that knows if the person has Epilepsy unless they hit their head or are bleeding or did not resume breathing afterwards or it lasted more than 5 mins. Just a few pointers hopefully everyone will take to heart EPECIALLY OUR RESIDENT TROLLS REV AND BID DIESEL SINCE WHEN IT COMES TO EPILEPSY I HAVE MORE FIRST HAND EXPERIANCE THAN YOU WILL EVER GET SINCE I HAVE A 7 YEAR HEAD START.
