Are you epileptic or retarded? No one drives a nuke plant down the highway aimed at anyone else. If this imaginary friend has a seizure... SO WHAT!!! He will have his seizure, snap out of it and get back to work and the nuke plant will not have noticed.. YOU on the other hand behind the wheel of a large truck loses control for a SECOND and people WILL almost assuredly will be horribly injured or die. I realize that you obviously are thick skulled enough to think that you are being discriminated against... but if your decision making skills are this poor. It's better to have you off the road. Now if we could just keep you from polluting this website it would be even better.

Who is thick headed here? So hence the stigmatism that has been discussed! You feel it can not be safe when others say different. You have your right to opinion. Remember they are not saying all are safe. The total blanket denial is what is wrong. I think the point with the friend at the power plant is people with controlled seizures can and do all sorts of important jobs. (true acquaintance or not) Look throughout history.

Fozzy I understand the Goverments reasoning to keep people with UNCONTROLLED SEIZURES FROM DRIVING A CMV THAT I AGREE WITH. However what sets me off is when I do get discriminated against when I was in the job market people would here the word Epileptic and be like SORRY WE FOUND SOMEONE ELSE yet the positon was still open 3 months later. Fozzy must people drive while distracted and take their eyes off the road for more than a second yet they do not kill or injure thousands you realize who dumb that statement makes YOU LOOK. As for me leaving this forum FORGET IT I enjoy it to much and this is a free country. The simple fact is there are more than likely some drivers that have Epilepsy and are hiding the fact from companies and the DOT and hoping they do not get caught.

Rev Canada the smae country that fines you heavily for a loose wheel allows controlled Epileptics to drive why they followed the science and their regulators arenot in bed with the Largest trucking company group more than likely. Who was it that was pushing for the 11th hour and 34 hour resets if IIRC the ATA why that way tehy can get you home sat morning yet still have you leave sunday adn say we got you home plus push you harder. Canada has some of the toughest laws to get your CDL license if you have Epilepsy yet they do allow people to drive with it why won't the FMCSA adopt a system simalar to that.

In august of 2004, my brother in law and I were both sitting at a shipper's yard in Woodland CA, which is right beside I-5. While we were waiting to get our trucks loaded, we were sitting in the shade on the east side of the building(the side closest to I-5), when we saw a south-bound semi, cross the center median, and slam into NB traffic. Now..we did not climb over fences and go get involved, but we did read in the Sacramento paper a couple days later, that the driver of that truck had fallen asleep at the wheel, and killed 7 people, crossing the median the way the truck did. It all happened in a blink.
But hey...when we got loaded and hit NB 5 to head up into southern Oregon to make our deliveries...I-5 was a breeze!! :P :P

If preventing someone whom is prone to seizures, from driving a CMV saves only one person from injury, let alone death, then the DOT should damned well prevent everybody whom has a diagnosed disease, which causes or poses the risk of, seizures, from driving trucks, flying airplanes, or controling ships and freight trains.

Like the example of the "Head" of a nulcear power plant, those people have the ability to learn a profession that does not endanger the lives of any individual.

Period.

Ooooooooh..Wait a second! Forgive that rant up there...The DOT already does prevent those people from doing those activities!

Fine then lets apply that logic to HBP, Sleep Apnea any and all Mental Illnesses and also being Overweight. With teh HBP you can not take any meds to keep it down and also apply it to High Cholestorol and also can not wear glasses or contacts. Basically to use your logic then Orangetx everyone driving a truck would be in perfect health then. Since HBP can cause you to have a Heart attack or stroke and that causes you to pass out also ban any Diabetics then since they get to low or High they will pass out then.

You have E so you need to get off this sight. Here goes the discrimination.

I have spent a lot of time and research looking for such drivers. It is alarming how many are doing this. They have all told me the same things. "Discrimination, total blanket denial. It needs to be individualized." I by no means indorse any of these drivers that are breaking the law. Some had truck payments to make, some told me it was just the love of the road. I have spoke with others that have intrastate waivers and they tell me the same things. Some are driving roads that are more dangerous now since the can't leave the state.
The majority of these drivers were male and owner operators. A lot of them just had nocturnal seizures. None of them told the neurologist that they are truck drivers, or were still driving. Some of them only suffered one seizure and still chose to go on AED's. I know some were just telling a bunch of bs. The ones that did not know much of the terms or lingo of trucking were bs. The drivers that had no clue about epilepsy were fibbing about having it. Or worse, they had seizures and are driving not understanding epilepsy.

Yea the FMCSA, does try to keep these drivers off the road. Need to read what other regulations they want to put in. Oh yea, it will all be good, it will save lives. It will start to make it more difficult to pass a DOT physical, but that is good for us all, drivers or not.
I have been in a lot of driver chat rooms on these issues. A lot of drivers just clearly don't understand epilepsy and that is understandable. But this sight is the worst on not caring about more regulations. I bet the ones in here will cry the most when they are hit with one of the new proposed regulations.

What does this subject/thread have do with us O/O's ???

It should be moved to the comedy section.....

Wow, just what I was talking about. The MRB is talking about stricter regulations that will hit most of us. Drivers that are driving safely now with safe medical conditions will be band. Oh yea, we will all be safer
