Wink

DD was a cook. If his boat got stuck on a sand bar it was because the crew was too fat from all his cream pies and monte cristo sandwiches.

I served aboard PORT ROYAL from Jan '97 to Dec 2000. She is a good ship. Its too bad this had to happen. The channel there is very tricky. All along the reef runway it is nothing but reef, rock, and corral. From what I have been told, she was conducting a personnel transfer from ship to shore.

MMMM....Monte Christo samiches......

I have once again slipped into that lazy lull and neglected to keep my thread updated . So, let me just bring things up to speed......

I made a delivery in Gering, NE back on the Thursday the 5th. I knew that going up to that area of the country it would be hard to get back out but I wanted to "stretch" my legs so to speak and of course the rate was good. By Monday the 9th I decided I had enough and decided I would move in small increments towards the house. Stopping in "strategic" places to see what I might be able to russel up so my original trip wouldn't be a total loss.

Unfortunately I got all the way down to Amarillo, TX before something popped up out of Lubbock. The load from Lubbock paid really well (that is if you didn't factor in all of my DH up to that point ) and was going to a power plant in Saint Marys, KS. I got that load off and by now already had another lined up out of Lenexa, KS to Houston, TX. The only bad part about the Houston load was that it doesn't deliver until Monday the 16th. Although that part sucked, it also gave me a chance to make a tiny detour and stop in Joplin, MO to visit with an old friend and his new wife. So it wasn't a total loss.

While doing a post trip inspection in Joplin, I noticed that there was "oil" all over my catwalk. Further investigation revealed it was coming from some where off the forward axle right where the drive shaft connects. Describing it to a friend of mine, he believes it is either the input seal or cover gasket.

I went to talk with the guys at the Petro there in Joplin Saturday morning about it and the "kid" also thinks its either the seal or gasket and they "might" be able to fix it. Well to make a long story short, lets just say that I did not feel too comfortable letting that particular crew tear into my rig with the possibility that they "might" be able to fix it. So I am heading into the Dallas Western Star shop in the morning and hope that it's a quick, easy, and not too expensive repair.

Meanwhile, once I get this load off in Houston, I have another lined up out of Humble, TX and if all goes well I'll have another lined up after that one (got to call the agent Monday to confirm it). After which I intend to head to the house for a week or so to rest, relax, and take care of a few pressing matters.

Thanks for the update, DD. I hope all is well with your WS. I am gearing up to start school next month. I have my DOT physical tomorrow at 2pm. Need to finish up an essay for a small scholarship the school offers and am still awaiting my payment through the VA for GI Bill Top Up.

The next two months is going to be interesting.

Thanks......I stopped at the WS shop in Dallas only to have them tell me it would be Monday AM before they could look at me. Unfortunately I could not wait that long as I had to drop and reload Monday. The guy did come out and take a quick look and said that he was 99% sure it was the input seal that was bad and that because the drive shaft is spinning it is making the problem look a lot worse than it really was. He stated that it definitely needs to be looked at closer and repaired, but was confident that I could make my drop and pick up in Houston with no problems.

Anyways, I'll be looking forward to hearing about your experience while in school. Have you chosen a company yet?
