WTF nothing can ever seem to go right.
Progressive wants 10,113.00 a year for insurance which is highway robbery. My dad who has the same damn insurance limits and everything pays 4,600 a year with progressive. I got 2 different insurance brokers working on getting me a better rate with other insurance company's. I have a clean driving record no points or anything. Have my CDL since 2002. Never dreamed insurance was going to be a problem. If i cant get insurance for less then 7,000/yr i might just give up. I can still back out of the truck. But i would lose a 1,000 dollars i had to give mack. God I'm so pissed. Its my own damn fault in a way. I guess i should have checked into insurance before i did anything. Plus that rate is with 1million liability and a 1,000 deductible. I don't need cargo insurance cuz Stone is cheap. Truck value is 75,000. This is just un-real. I hope my brokers can get me better rates with someone. I will keep everyone up to date. PS anyone even thinking about buying a truck get an insurance quote before you do anything. Don't be a dumbazz like me.

Yea its really all who you know in the dump truck work. If it wasnt for my dad i would have no work. But he has alot of contacts. Plus i will be leased to a company hauling out of a quarry as well.
I called OOIDA they gave me a qoute of 9800/year. But for dump trucks they go threw Progressive. I am lease fredog but they company wants me to do everything. The only real reason im leased is so i can haul out of the one quarry. Plus its going to save me the sale tax on the truck. Cuz i get to use their PUC number. I will have the other qoutes 2morrow when they call me back. if you want to move to Georgia, I could get you a sweet deal, the guy I used to work for got a contract to haul 3 million tons of contaminated dirt, it's a 150 mile round trip. loaded one way, pays the truck 300 bucks a load, almost makes me want to buy a dump truck

You might check with Northland and Great West. They are two of the larger truck insurance companies. If you can find a good insurance broker that would be your best bet. They should be able to shop your business. It is nearly always a challenge to get insurance starting out.....at least at a decent rate.

I know its a whole another ball game. But what do you OTR guys pay a year ??

I believe that I paid $4,100 this year which includes $100,000 cargo. Keep in mind that I have many years of experience and have a good track record. Starting out you are an unknown entity. They have nothing in which to base your premium since you don't yet have a track record. One thing that I can assure you is that rates can vary widely from one company to another. To give you an idea of some factors that go into calculating a premium, insurance companies will check your credit, length of time you have held your CDL and how much experience you have had in the equipment in which you want to run and insure. They will look at your MVR and may even check your criminal history. Where you live and run can also play a major factor in rates. You may get hit a bit hard the first year, but your premiums should begin to drop after the first year providing your keep your MVR clean and have a good safety record. That means NO tickets and NO failed inspections, at least in part. As you mature. your premiums are also likely to go down. It is nice that there are some benefits to getting older.

I got 4 more quotes today. 13,100 - 8,700 - 7,900 and 6,700. The company that gave me the 6,700 is called victoria insurance. I was hoping for less then 6,000 but i can make 6,700 work with out a problem.
