Default I tried to sign up with Verizon.....

I was south of the border a couple of days ago and stopped at a Verizon retaier to look at some mobile internet options for my laptop. $60/month + a free "air card" seemed OK so I said let's do it but I don't have a US address. He said I'll just use this stores address.

Then he said what's your social security number? I said pardon.....we don't give those thing out.......especially not to sign up for something as routine as an ISP.

Do you Americans really need to cough up your SSN to sign up with Verizon?

They are going to run a credit check on you, that's why they need your SS #. Same thing when you sign up for phone service at home, electric, gas or anything else.

there are way around giving your SSN number but it is very drawn out and time consuming. I used to work at a mobile phone call center and every now and than someone would not give their SSN on their account.

also you would need an actual physical address in America for them to sign you up NO P.O. Boxes.

Well you're canadian right? You don't have a SSN #, you have a SIN #.

I have the same problem.

On their website, it states something like if you put $300 down then they wont need it.

We'll probably have to do that, or prepay or something.

I suppose I could do a phony one....but we're already a corp and already have the EIN# (needed it for Landstar  ). I don't really care about giving them the EIN so I'll give that a try when I'm stateside again this week.

you guys rock
