I'm assuming the 6.8 mpg was with the 9spd? Who are you signing on with Afton Trucking, Red Bird, Comtrak, or Triple Crown? I know there are more intermodal companies based out of St. Louis but they have escaped my mind.

And I'm leasing it on to Morgan Southern. They're based out of Atlanta.

You will be fine with that setup.I have the same thing only mine is a ex-swift Classic Xl.
Your tranny is not a OD though it is a straight 13spd.You can not run a OD with the 2.93 rears.Nor do I find myself shifting all the time. That is a BIG misconception by people. And it will pull just fine,I have had mine for almost 5yrs now and the only thing I have had to do was a inframe at 732,000 miles only because I lost the bull gear on the front of the engine(wiped out the bottom end). When they got the engine opened up they said it was in very good shape and well taken care of. I pulled refer's with this setup running 78-80,000 all over the place east to west and @ 75mph (when fuel was cheaper)stayed @ 5.9-6.2mpg. And I had no probs pulling hills. Know that I pull a step deck and slowed down to running 60mph i have been avg. 7.3mpg(with this setup in a NON-aero truck). People do not understand that depending on what your final rear end ratio depends on what ratio steps are in the tranny. I have no prob at all keeping up with my friend with his 500 dd with 3:55 gears and a 13 OD on the hills running mine at 430/470 Or another friend that had a 14L DD with the same size tires(295/75-22.5's)with 3:58's and a 13 OD we could run side by side all the way up the mountins.

Im happy with it,hell makes me wish I slowed down along time ago.
Some of my friends keep telling me I need to update and buy a new truck. I laugh at them and ask why...it is paid for only has 250,000 on the inframe and I get killer mpg's.Meanwhile they are doing good to get 5.5-6mpg's with the new epa engines.

Hey DoubleL got your pm but I can't send one back.I do not have aleast 50 post yet.
But we are on the same page. I feel that a classic style or square truck does not have a big disadvantage until you hit the aero threshold(sp?).which they say is 55mph.till then aero has really no factor on the mpg.

Yeah why get rid of something that is paid for and just had a new inframe that doesn't make sense to me. I say keep running it until the wheels fall off or the epa mandates that owner operators upgrade to 08 and newer trucks.

Thats what im thinking.Hell 2 more years and the step will paid off also unless I decide to pay it off early.
And scince the trucks paid off and I can't write it off anymore it is time to start doing som custom work to it now.(paint,int....etc...).haha |
