Landstar
I used to be leased to Inway pulling my own flat running team out of Granite City Il. I made good money with them then my soon to be ex got greedy I got needy get the picture........As far as Inway they were great but you had to work the "system" learning which agents were good and which ones well........Partials or l.t.l. freight is where I made the big money with them. To each their own, just my experience with them, sort of my niche. The thing had a problem with would be some agents were also agents for other companies brokering the freight at a lower rate stuffing more $$$$$$$$$$ in their pockets. In 1995 I averaged $1.52 per running mile to the truck on the hub, but there are those who will argue that but my accountant knows as well. As a team we only ran 186,000 miles not much for a team but considering the stops and p/u's we made it was pretty good. I'm kind of curious how they are nowadays but.... that was then.

But I digress. this thread was supposed to be about leasing to them. One thing about Landstar is that some agents have freight in various parts of the country. Just because an agent is based in Houston, for instance, doesn't mean that he doesn't have freight in other parts of the country. Some may bring in freight to their customers from other shippers. Whether you lease to them or are a broker carrier, the rates can vary from one agent to another, as will their freight base. Another thing about Landstar and other brokers is that they will sometimes work with agents in other areas to help get their trucks back where they can take another one of their loads. |
