Flood, are you talking about true independents or so called O/O's. There is a big difference

OK, can we get past the petty same old, same old and get to the bottom of this??
I'm about tired of the run around. A strike will not work,.....drive slower,...don't idle,..don't take cheap freight,..it's the same everytime this comes up. Truth is that most OO's don't care untill pump shock hits their wallets. The big boys JB's,Swift's don't have enough trucks to cover the freight that needs to be hauled to keep this country running,...so who's fault is it?? It's the smaller companies and independants that are out there cutting the throats of each other with their stupid "Backhaul" rates. I have seen it here on this board,....drivers that think they can make a profit at $1.25 per mile,..drivers doing backhauls that barely cover the cost of fuel. You can have all the strikes you want,...you can drive your truck's ,,,,air horn's a blowin' right up to DC,.....and when all the smoke settles,....the freight never stopped being hauled because the whole time there was always a truck to haul the freight,....even at $1.00 per mile. So what do you do to make a change. I personally raised my bottom line to haul up to $2.50per mile. Currently I have a decent regular two time a week haul at $2.94per mile,...and I say decent,...I'm searching for even better paying freight. I'm not going to stop tommorow,..why should I,..I already: 1.Drive slower (55mph) 2.Don't idle (at all) 3.Run compliant (legal) 4.Don't take cheap freight (none for less than $2.50per mile) So do you think that shutting down for a day,...even a week will do anything? I don't,....there are way too many starving truckers out there who will gladly pick up the slack and take the good loads,...and if we shut down long enough,....even the $2.50 loads will be down to $1.00 because the bottom feeders are now trying to out do each other. Problem is,....we are preaching to the choir,...we all know the problems,......the problem as I see it is that there are more drivers who don't know,..or don't care than those of us that do. ""DISCLAIMER"" Doghouse has only been an OO for 4 months and lacks the expierience to have a real opinion about the trucking industry. |
