You want an answer Rev. Where do you want me to start, I guess I will start with the taxes that are put on each gal of fuel that is pumped. That is at the state level and federal level. George Bush and his cronies that are profiting from these ridiculous prices. Our government for allowing our fuel to be shipped overseas. etc. That in itself should be enough to piss anyone off I would think.

We have one guy in our yard that is going to "strike" I gladly picked up his job for him it actually pays pretty well. I even told the contracter that my rate went up to $90 (from $83) per hour due to fuel cost and he said no problem bud see ya in the morning!

Good deal for you SoCal,..but what if 4 of you guys were bidding on this freight,..and it went all the way down to $60.00 an hour,...at that point the shipper gets his freight hauled for way less and loves it when a "strike" happens.
This probably won't happen to you,..because you know all the guys in your outfit,...but I can say with relative certainty that the flatbed driver parked next to me would gladly take my $2.94per mile load for $1.50per mile because I am on a "strike" 4/1/08. Thats why I won't do it,...if I punish my good paying shipper,...I am the fool.

If you don't haul cheap freight and you're still in a bind, there's only one explanation...there's not enough good freight available. If that's the case, then why in the world would you stay in the business? Only a fool keeps on in a money-losing proposition.
BTW, well done DH. It took you 4 months to arrive at a place that many out here won't in an entire lifetime

This is not about freight prices or if your a good businessman etc. It is the fact that you are pulling up to get fuel that costs right at or over $4.00/gal.
For the life of me I can not understand why anyone would be OK with this.

no worries,...LOL,..make no mistake,..I am doing this to make a profit,...I like my "rolling condo",...but not if I am not making a decent profit.
I mean truck stops are nice and all, and the highways in the USA are beautiful  , but I have better things to do if I'm not getting ahead driving this truck.

Could you elaborate further on how George Bush sets the price of oil? Can you also elaborate as to how he was setting this price back in the late 1990's, when he was governor of Texas? |
