Just found this and it breaks my heart
I don't even want to post it over on the driver's board, because I don't think a lot of those guys have been around long enough to realize what this might mean to this country and the way it is headed.
The top dogs at Schneider, as well as the other big companies, should be on our Government's watch list, and I've told myself for years, that they would get their come-uppance. Now here they are teaming-up with the U. S. Army. I don't know how you feel about this but it dims my outlook tremendously. The article isn't very clear as to what it encompasses or what it means about Schneider partnering with the Army. I have never thought is was a good idea for private enterprise to get in business with the government. It sounds like more socialism to me.

Schneider was late joining the "band-wagon" as far as partnering with the US Army Reserve, or any other mitiary entity, when it comes down to driver "recruitment". That is all that was about. Schneider was looking to gain money, by recruiting drivers, that also signed up for the "Reserves"...and vise-versa. They also signed up soldiers whom were leaving military service as drivers. There were several other companies which did the same thing...back in late 2005 and early 2006.

I think what it means that The U.S. Army will be able to recruit Schneider drivers to join the reserves and the Schneider will be able to recruit Army reserve members to drive for them. I think Schneider may get the better end of this because I think there is an age restriction (40 years old) for joining the reserves. You can take a 41 year old reservists and make a truck driver out of him but I am not sure you can take a 41 year old truck driver and make a reservist out of him. But, Maybe I am wrong.

How about Schneider and the Army back in 1990....that's how I got into trucking. I was at a conference banquet for the Army in the summer of 1991 and Don Schneider was the Guest Speaker...and the recipient of the annual award "1990 Top Supporter of the Guard and Reserve". They had a couple tractor trailer rigs parked outside the hotel with all kinds of handouts etc. I was due to retire in Dec 91 and after talking to Don Schneider he got me an application...filled it out, gave it to him the next day during the conference...had a guaranteed job when I retired. Back then their driving school was free to anyone coming out of the military...as was JB Hunt's. I was amazed at the number of retired drivers working for Schneider.
When guys get towards the end of their hitch the Army does a program that used to be called Project Transition...how to write resumes, whats available for jobs etc....Schneider gives presentations during many of these..at least used to. Anywho....stayed with them til 99 when I changed over to a local outfit here at home. This definately isn't anything new that is going to hurt anyone....shoot SNC was very involved in transporting stuff for shipment to the Army and during deployments. I delivered lots of loads to various installations. Schneider and the military go way back...nothing new at all.
