Another paradox of the trucking industry. You burn more fuel when hauling heavy loads, it's more dangerous but they pay you less

I talked to our Operation managers here in Guelph, ONT about buying my own trailer and they were dead against step-decks but said it was "essential" to have the front axle slider on a flat. My understanding is flatbed loads from Ontario to Alberta and BC pay very good bucks - and you need the FAS to rake it in
