Nice looking dash!!! Are you thinking of showing the truck when you are done? With all this potential, it sure looks like you could if you wanted to.

My "Home Improvement" skills are pretty basic. If it moves and it isn't supposed to, Duct tape. If it's supposed to move and doesn't, WD40 and a hammer usually work.
Sorry for the hijack Rev., your truck is gonna be HOT!

One thing I am thankful for, however, is that my insurance covers changes to the truck. Many insurance companies won't.

Back to the drawing board on my dash. I missed the auction ending
Oh well, it sold for a little bit more than I wanted to pay for it anyway - $355 (plus $100 shipping). I may make plans to get back home for the Iola car show and swap meet in July - the swap meet is an awesome place to find old car parts. I am in the process of removing everything from the cab of my truck. I am pulling the carpet out and cutting a hardwood floor for it. I bought the hardwood flooring today (for a whopping $45). Tomorrow I am having some body panels made. I'll post pics when they are done. The custom hood ornament/handle is cut, and just needs to be bent to the proper shape. Things are progressing nicely. I am going to look into finding some 6" 12 gauge or 14 gauge pipe to build a set of stacks next week.

Rev there's also a lot car stuff in Carlisle, PA if you need another source for parts.
Funny you mention hardwood floors, I have a friend that's installing 2700 sq.ft. of it this week and he's going to bring me about 25 sq.ft for my truck. 8) It's the unfinished kind so I can stain it whatever color I like. I'm wondering though if you need to put down some kind of barrier between the metal floor and the hardwood? Seems to me that you should to keep any moisture from buckling the wood. I was thinking about using roofing paper for that. I don't feel like starting a new thread for this so I'll post it here, (I hope you don't mind) but check out what I did with my truck. When I took the previous owners letters off, the paint looked good underneath, so I started scrubbing. 8) Before http://s242.photobucket.com/albums/f...igtruck002.jpg After http://s242.photobucket.com/albums/f...59After011.jpg http://s242.photobucket.com/albums/f...59After012.jpg http://s242.photobucket.com/albums/f...59After001.jpg http://s242.photobucket.com/albums/f...59After020.jpg I used Mequiars fine cut, then swirl remover, then yellow wax. I highly recommend those products. I'm also building a cabinet to go in the back. It'll be on the passenger side of the sleeper from floor to ceiling and then run from side to side over the bed. Upside down L-shape if you will. With the part that goes from floor to ceiling, I'm going to put one big door instead of a bunch of drawers. When you open the big door the drawers will slide out. I'd also like to have a slide out desk to set a laptop on.

RostyC...we finally get to see pics She's a classic un, that's fo sho!!
What about using a rubberized matting material to help with sound deadening as well as waterproofing (and insulation) for under the wood flooring? Rev..sorry bout losing out on the dash that would have looked great!! But there are others out there, keep lookin. Could a dash like that be somehow extended in the center to cover the width of the dash? |
