New UCR Fees for 2010
The new fee structure will only count trucks and will no longer tax trailers in the fleet. It appears that if you only own one truck you can get a rate decrease but if you own 2-5 trucks then you will see a rate increase. It looks like the major carriers could get a good price break. If they really wanted to be fair in their pricing they should charge a flat rate per truck rather than a variance.
The fee structure adopted by the board for 2010 is: 0-1 trucks – $83 2-5 trucks – $166 6-20 trucks – $497 21-100 trucks – $1,741 101-1,000 trucks – $8,373 1,001 or more trucks – $82,983 Brokers and leasing companies will still be subject to the same fee paid by truckers in the 0-1 truck category.

I am in the 2-5 catagory. Last year it was $116. Went up 43%!
In the article I read it was stressed that the original fee structure was not intended to remain that low and that part of the increase is due to carriers that should be paying the fee are not. Well, I want to be one of those guys! What else are they not paying and instead of going after them, the powers-that-be will just raise the fee for everyone else to cover the bum's share. I haven't figured out yet just what this fee is for, anyway.

I am in the second tier also. Perhaps we should just declare one truck and forget about it. This is supposed to replace the SSR. In any case it is just another tax we have to pay in order to be in this business. I have noticed that everything related to my business is going up while the rates are going down. In fact, the rates have been going down faster than the costs have been going up. I just got a bill for my property taxes. One bank that I do business with told me a couple of months ago that my property isn't valued as much as it was a year ago. My tax bill raised the value of my property 15% over last year. issedoff: Instead of these government entities cutting costs they are raising taxes. They are raising our taxes during a depression. I think we need an across the board pay cut for all government employees, a freeze on their retirement, stop forced retirement at 59, and start cutting departments and personnel that is not specifically called for in the constitution. In addition, we need to cut congressional wages to that of 1970 and stop any retirement pay of elected officials that they didn't pay into themselves. They should also be contributing to social security like the rest of the country.

I understand it replaced the Singe State Registration. But just what was the SSR for? I pay for prorated tags, IFTA, and in some states prorated property tax. Just what was the SSR and what is the UCR for?
I can't legally run in a state I am not apportioned for, so the UCR, IMO, is just a fee with no reason behind it. This is especially true considering all states are not a part of the UCR, but if I'm apportioned there, I can still run there.

Just give it time. It costs more this year than last and is likely to go up from here. I believe the SSR used to cost about $256 per truck. These chickencrats are really getting a good start at raising taxes. I can't wait to see what they come up with next.......OK, I can wait.

Things start to get ugly and will be ugly for a time to come.I don't see anything better coming out in the near future. All the manufacturing jobs that USA was famous with, are somewhere else around the world.Unless people start to be employed and earn a decent wage for middle class america, this economy will not come out of this. This is the result of the nice dream USA lived based on the easy credit that's been going on from real estate, credit cards, home equityetc. Most people maintained a lifestyle beyond their means with credit but with no real jobs.On the top of this, you have the uncontrolled government spending.I hate to see us going everywhere around the world to improve the lives of others, but yet we can't take care of ourselves.A while ago i heard a trucker on the cb saying something like this"if our founding fathers would come out of from their graves and would see what's going on right now, they'll just roll over and refuse to come out".Pretty true and sad at the same time.

You can despute the tax increase. Make them show how they appraised your property and use the info from your bank and include a list of recently sold properties resembling yours in your area and their selling prices. If they cannot explain how your property has managed to increase 15% in value while everybody else's has gone down, they generally have little choice but to adjust your assessment.
