Are you treated like a company driver or an O/O when it comes to your preferences for how much you work? I haven't taken off that much time yet,but usually I just tell them I'm gonna take off until Mon. and they say just call when ready - So what would I do? Show up for orientation and get everything ready to go and just call Landstar and tell them to close me out? I'm not too familiar with the process especially since I have their plates and permits. Somewhere in here I've got to get these jakes fixed so I can get down off the mountains. Maybe I could go down to Cummins in Bristol, PA and see if they could do it. I would talk to someone and get things rolling and when you get ready to go to Oreintation I would then cancel my lease with Landstar, you have to send them thier plate and permit book to them via Fedex and they will confirm you are released. If I was you I would try to get my pump and compressor installed while I was still working if I could maybe on a off weekend? If not it really shouldn't take more than 2 days I had mine done while I was in Orientation.

How does one go about getting a pump and compressor? Let's say new, company has them on hand? Dana have mechanics who will install it? Let's say used, I'm looking for some kind of 'for sale' ads? How would I ever know what I'm buying and if it works? I've tried to buy a used headache rack and just trying to meet the seller and do the deal has been really difficult.

I bought a used pump, new compressor and new hose rack and new fittings from my terminal and they took out $200 from my settlement after the first 2 weeks or so. They will not install it for you, something about liability issues.

Mike,
What's the difference between these companies, Dana, Suttles, etc.? Driver pay the same? Use each other's terminals, tank washes? Haul the same stuff, service the same accounts? What about their comparative sizes?

You can get everything installed at the Grafton Mass terminal, AND they do a good job, BUT you will have to have been with the company a little while before they do. There is lots of used stuff around, just got to look, they will let you run WITHOUT the equip for a while, BUT it can hurt your revenue a little. My pump is OFF my KW now since the begining of the year, hasn't made much difference for me (yet) Cam, since you don't say where you are, or if you did I missed it, call the Dana terminal in Jacksonville, I don't think they will give you a bad time about not having any experience like the Suttles terminals will. |
